Your network infrastructure

Lets all post what we run at home, and how our network looks like.

Network is simple, linksys router downstairs with link to all servers and link that goes upstairs to my room, I have a switch in my room with my PC and a spare dangling cat5 cable for when I work on a machine.

[b]server 1 [borg][/b] does everything (I know, very bad for redundancy)
- DNS
- Web server for testing, development, and intranet (business management stuff, etc)
- php/mysql used for webserver
- email
- file server (samba)

Server is an AMD Athlon 2000+ with only 1GB of ram, a 120GB drive and 300GB drive

Normally I'd seperate all these jobs into seperate servers. I'd also increase my F@H stats that way. But I'm constrained with physical space and electrical backup units.


[b]server 2 [deathstar][/b] backup server
- borg sends WOL packet once a day to active deathstar, cron job runs and uses rsync and samba to backup the borg server and both workstations, then it shuts off. The drives are removable which gives me room for expandability (ex: 1 drive per backup job, and/or rotations)

Server is an AMD Sempron in which I forget the speed with 512MB of ram with a 200GB drive for OS/backups and 300GB drive, all drives are removable so I can swap them around, but right now it's all I have in drives so they stay in all the time.


[b]server 3 [alderaan][/b] VMware/Test Server
I only turn it on when I need it, it has windows 2003 with TS enabled and I have VMware installed (perhaps more stuff later on). Right now I'm using it mostly for getting ahead in my OS class labs. I have a Domain controller and a child domain controller which is what the setup we have at the college lab for our labs and such.

Specs are: AMD Athlon 2700+ 1GB of ram, 80GB HDD (chances are I'll add another one at some point)  Funny thing about this server is that it's my old PC, which crapped out VERY badly on me, so I put the parts asside to try and troubleshoot it, when I tested it out again, it worked fine, but it's pretty much a time bomb waiting to happen.  I backup the VMs to my external drive every day.

XP Home on a Celeron, 512MB of RAM and 80GB HDD. It's a Dell, and it's my Aunt's machine.

PC2 [JACOB]
Win2000 Pro on a Celeron 1.8, 128MB of RAM and 6GB HDD. It's a rebuilt Compaq, and it's my little cousin's.

PC3 [PHEONIX]
WinXP Pro, 1GB of RAM, 120GB Drive and AMD 64-Bit 3000+. That's my desktop, but it's on it's way out.

LP1 [THINKPAD]
IBM ThinkPad 390E Laptop, 333mhz, 6GB Drive and 170MB of Ram. Spare Laptop, running Red Hat 9.

LP2 [R3210CA]
Compaq R3210CA Laptop, AMD Athlon XP 2700+, 512MB of Ram, 40GB HDD. My main unit.

IBM PS/2 Servers, the original 9595's. I've got two, currently de-commisioned and now part of my foot-rest infrastructure.

And yes, I do have some Servers running (2K3 Enterprise, SQL and Exchange), but they run within Microsoft VirtualPC on my laptop.

Yay borg got an upgrade, so I edited my post, 1GB of ram now. That upgrade was done a while back just forgot to edit it.

For right now, I'm still living with my mom, so when me and my dad move I'll be setting up a nice network. Currently we only have the a Linksys router and two PCs, one connected wirelessly in the living room, and mine hardwired in my room((where I be atz right nowuh)).

But I'm setting up a LAN in the next year or so. In which I SHOULD be using THIS:

Switch

24 ports. I'll also have 5-10 PCs setup, for LAN parties. Also, I'll have my personal computer in my room, and maybe I'll get me a laptop.

I thought the 64 bit was the cats a**.

Mine is an:

AMD 2000XP plus

1GB PC133 Ram

a 120 & a 40 GB hard drives

PC---DSL Modem---Internet

Win XP Pro SP3

LOL

Also, I just got (for FREE) a barebones EZ Watcher PC it has kool meters on the front, which is a socket A .

My AMD would work but not the memory so it's sitting there in the box.

I also have a couple of old -I think-Compacts from a business that went out of business-I've yet to hook them up.
