Solution: Samsung CD/DVDW TS-H552U DVD drive

Post by Red Squirrel »

This drive seems to be popular, so figured I would post this.

By default if you try to burn any data DVD you will get a coaster. What would happen with me is it would just stop burning at about 16%, the drive would spin up faster, then stop, and the light would no longer be flashing and it would eventually bail out and error out.

After 3 coasters I realized it was a bug in the default firmware. So I updated the firmware to the latest version and now it works like a charm.

I also saw on a spindle of DVDs a warning that some brand DVD burners have to get their firmware upgraded to work with the 8X discs. So it most likely has to do with that.

But the discs I was using at first were only 4X (I think).
