shutdown error message

Post by richardj »

Ok now pay attention---------------:stir the pot:

I reloaded WINXP Pro various times & got all those different explorer trees:

user.default
Richard
Richard.00
Richard.000
exct--------SO, I just tried copying & pasting them all into one & another to get down to one & deleated the rest, which , for the most part worked.

However, now, everytime I click start-turn off computer-a box titled 'delete' pops open & says:
Recent is a Windows system folder and is required for Windows to operate properly-it cannot be deleated. :banghead:

I have done a couple of repair installs, cleaned the registry, searched the registy, googled my mind out, ran different fix it programs & no answer.

I even copied a 'recent' folder into the last identity I couldn't quite all delete-no good.

How do I get rid of this?

We're you logged in as that user when you copied the profile folders? since that would cause some files like ntuser.dat to not get copied properly and mess up the profile.

Odd that it's trying to clear your recent list at shutdown though... maybe there's a setting for that, I'll look and post if there is.

Thanks
:wave2:
Because I can't get rid of it at all

Now I've done a reinstall (upgrade/unattend) and a repair install from bootup. It's still there.

If I can't come up with something, I'll have to do a clean reinstall, as I've downloaded 'Service Pack 3', but I don't want to install these (over 100 hotfixes) untill the base is operating properly.:dosgonebad:

And no -the delete message refers to an identity in which I was not logged in as.

As far as mocking you goes-------------------------

The message comes up everytime I press start-turnoff computer.

This problem has been ongoing since I combined identities.

And untill I push ok- the shutdown cue (-standby-turnoff-restart) will not appear. :grade11math:

Hmm that is really weird. I don't think this is going to work but go to

C:Documents and Settings
yanRecent

Replace ryan with your username, then delete all the files in that folder.

Then try

C:Documents and Settingsall usersRecent

That path should not exist, but maybe somehow it was created and the system is confused and trying to delete it.
