We have this stupid course called computer applications. Basically we have to read these badly layed out instructions in a book telling us to do silly things like change color of a specific title to a specitic setting, then later on it tells you to change it to something else.
It's pointless, and useless even in the office industry, when you have to make a spreadsheet for a company, you won't have to follow silly instructions like the borders having to be the exact shade of blue and the 0.001 pixel precision thickness etc...
That's not the bad part though. You should see how much paper is wasted because of that course. Ex: we have a 5 page spreadsheet. In the instructions there's somuch little details that it's very easy to miss a little thing such as changing web to Web which would be randomly shoved in the same instruction line saying to change the font color from red to dark red. So that alone makes 8 wasted pages.
Then, they tell you after specific changes. In this case 1 copy once done, one copy after changing a number to something else and another copy after replacing a word with another. So in total, I lost count of how much paper wasted.
Tried to hole punch it, broke my hole puncher, the paper got stuck and had to rip it out, now I have to reverse those changes and restart, and re print, wasting even more paper. Assuming 1 in 2 students will have to print twice because of any type of mistake, this makes the course waste enough paper to be used in a fire that could cook enough food to feed a poor family.
Oh and I did not mention this part, this teacher is the pickyest person ever.
12:00am and 12:00 A.M. is NOT the same, and only ONE is right. But it's not specified until the work gets corrected, and it's random too, one person might put PM and loose a mark for not using P.M. and another person might loose a mark for using P.M. instead of PM.
Oh and line spacing, this is an actual event, one person spaced it by x pixels and lost a mark because it was spaced too much. Another person spaced it x + y pixels and lost a mark because it was not spaced enough. (replace x and y with any values - I don't remember the numbers). I don't even know if she actually LOOKs at half of the thing, she just circles a few things and marks it.
Man this rant felt good. I hate that course. Can't wait till next year, we'll have worthwhile courses such as cisco and C++ programming. None of this picky crap. Oh man, having that teacher for math would be horrible... "It's not 2X it's 2*X" FAIL!

You'd have a good laugh if I was in there. I'd be ranting and raving, yelling, throwing things. I'd get so pissed off. The whole class would be laughing. Or I'd purpose do everything exactly the opposite of what it says.

We tried various experients actually. I tried to center a table even though it did not say to do it. I'll see if I loose points for it. I'll laugh, since it looks so ugly if it's not centered since it's just some small table shoved in the corner of a page.

Yeah, your teacher might say something stupid like, "It DID NOT SAY TO DO THAT! I don't care if it looks better! One step at a time!". Now, I don't know your teacher, just saying out of knowledge of how teachers can be. I mean, if you know how to do something already, and it makes it look better, DO IT!

Yep, actually that's how it was in html class. I lost points for using css. We did CSS in the second semister. We should have covered that like the second week. Same with if statements and loops in programming, we should of learned those like the 1st or 2nd day. It's a fundamental of programming. For loops are really complex so they could go in the 3rd day.
We actually learned file input before loops... You need a loop for proper file handling. But programming and html were not as bad then computer apps, at least the teacher was not as picky. Could be bad to have the computer apps teacher in programming. "I said to make the dialog 158 pixels wide not 160!"

I think I've done a similar course. Luckily for me though the teacher wasn't nearly so bad. There was still a lot of fiddling about though and getting marked down because I was correcting spelling and the like.
The worrying thing is these courses are all about office skills, and indeed there were a lot of office workers on the course I did, so how can a college student be better than all those office workers who supposedly do this rubbish all day long every day? It was supposed to be an hour long lesson and I was finishing in under half that. There are a lot of dumb people out there.
