Had that built in to a discman I bought four years ago. Not bad...

I remember playing with electronics and stuff, I managed to do that, but it was a very short range (like 2 feet) and it was only beeps - not actual sound, but I could of easly replaced the beeps with a source of sound. Pretty cool.
