We have trash cans, but why not recycle bins? These would work similar to trash cans, exept when the items are removed, they'd actually go to this central location: the recycle plant. There would be a bunch of chests there where items are categorized by type, like armor, jewlery, weapons, etc... maybe even go into more details like different types of armor and what not.
So all the items would just go in "holding chests" where anyone could go in and loot whatever they want. Would be good for newbies to go and perhaps make a half decent suit, or even advanced players to check for a specific item. These chests would become rediculously full and hard to find items though, but if there's demand I could try to encorporate some kind of search system of some sort. After a while items would just get deleted, maybe to make it seem realistic, they could even be turned into ingots or cut leather and drop in a final chest What I'd probably do is have like 10 chests per category, and every now and then items from one chest would move to the next so when they get to the end it would be the final step.
Just want to see if anyone is interested in this, and if yes I'll code it.

I think its a great idea.
And, to reduce the number of items in the chests, why not after x amount of time, the material is put down to the raw material and sorted, which is then placed on NPC's which can sell that material!
So say you recycle a pair of golden platemail legs. If after x amount of time they are still in the box, they are turned into Ingots, and then NPC's at the recycle plant will have them available to be purchased.
Same goes for Barbed and Horned leather, cloth, etc.

Would be hard to do because of how vendors work, but they could just drop in a box thats free for all.
Someone who really knows what their doing could even throw a bunch of junk in the plant to check later and get ingots out of it. But think I'd make it like 1 day per stage, so for items to be fully processed it would take like 10 days.

It could be abused easily for materials, espically with the portable forges, but it sounds good to me.

If you give someone a program, you will frustrate them for a day; if you teach them how to program, you will frustrate them for a lifetime.

Yeah material part maybe I would not do it, and just let the stuff decay. Another problem is someone going in and mass looting it just to stock up on junk for no reason. I could maybe limit the number of items you can take out, or something.
