Really fast tag editing and bitrate conversion

Since I have my new mp3 player, I would like to convert my whole collection of music to 96kbps to allow more space, right now, with a mix of kbps I get 51 songs on it and I would like to have more. I am looking for a good tag editor to change a whole directories tags' easily and hopefully the same program can convert the file as well.

I think rovingcowboy posted a link on here to a program called MediaMonkey that will do that in windows. I don't know about linux though. Have you tried looking on sourceforge.net?

I dont need it for linux... but it would be great if that program he posted can do what I need.

well, here's the link that roving cowboy posted in this thread. heck you even replied to it, but he only mentioned it as a tag editor. It does a bunch of other stuff too, file conversion, renaming, jukebox, media player through winamp, burning through nero. It doesn't speciically mention bitrate conversion on th website, but I assume you could simply use the format converter, and convert them to mp3s at a lower quality instead of a different file type.

Honestly though I can't speak as to how well it works. You'll have to ask cowboy about that. I tend not like jukeboxes or those jack of all trade programs.

thanks manadren for answering like that.

and it does have the different size choices in the format options so that should work for you only i did it from ogg to mp3 and made them smaller then the ogg so am not sure if it will make mp3 to smaller mp3

but as for the conveting down to smaller size mp3. WHY?

you want more songs on it can you not just get another memory stick and put in it.

as 96 kbps is the smallest for some songs but that size on a lot of songs might just cause to much loss in data and make it sound bad.

still if your wanting to hurt your ears there is no reason you can not do that if you want to they are your ears.

just when your woke up one night at 3:30am by your ears going over and kicking you in the nose, dont come to me and ask what made them do that

I can understand why he'd want to decrease the bit rate. I mean hauling around a sack of memory sticks can be a hassle when the entire point is for it to be light and small, not to mention the fact that those memory sticks [or smartmedia, flashmedia, etc.] aren't exactly inexpensive. Dumping the bitrate can be worth it for a few extra songs given the right situation. And besides, I doubt he's going to be listening to this on some swank stereo system or some $300 bose headphones.

The thing is that I do not have room for another memory stick which is why i can deal with 96kbps. I have songs on there that are that bitrate and they sound fine. But as of now 51 songs ranging from 96 - 160kbps, which means if they were all 96 I could fit alot more on there.
