REDMOND MSFT – 29-60-03 Microsoft has announced that it will be donating 5.7 Billion Dollars US to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and as well as in efforts for the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). "Piracy is getting out of hand, and we hope that this will greatly help fight it" said Bill Gates at the convention, after signing a certified check for 5.7 Billion.

With this money, the RIAA hopes to roll out a new technology which will enable easier catching of people downloading copyrighted materials. Microsoft has announced that this money was going to be a generous donation to a large cancer society but the idea was later on declined by a head chief who was asked to be kept anonymous. "When it comes to donating large amounts of money, we want to make sure it goes for a good cause" he had mentioned during the meeting.

"I think this is a great idea! I'm so sick of these people downloading copyrighted materials which causes CD prices to go up." mentioned Ben D., 16 a high school student, also a fan of various punk bands. "The RIAA rules! I just hope they get all these [bastards] once in for all so prices can go down on newer albums!". It was later on announced that Microsoft shares went up 42.87$ 2 hours after the 5.7 check was signed.

The quote form the kid, kinda makes me think it's a joke, but the idea its;ft is all but implausible. DRM is microsoft's new thing, what they hope to be making lots of money on in the future.. so they are giving money to the people they will be selling to later ... so it's almost like puttin their money in their own pockets, but it's more like priming the pump...
