Hard Drives Are Loud!!!

Post by Red Squirrel »

I grinded my way to opening that darn 10 gig. The screws were on so tight that unscrewing would just scrip them, so I grinded a line to use a flat screw driver, one of the screws' head broke in two - had to grind the whole thing off, two screws were hidden by "this will void your warrenty" stickers.

I plugged it in, turned it on... that is awsome! and the platters are just like a mirror!

You would not believe how loud that is when it's open!

I was going to write some kind of article on "proper hard drive care" (comedy) but my camera is being a PIA again (keeps thinking the battery is dead, stupid $700 peice trash) but I might if I can get the thing to work.

Anyone else ever open up a hard drive? This is the second one I open, but the first one was not really opened, more like pried. (no unscrewing, and no grinding - just shove the screw driver in and pry! lol)

I saw my friends drive and It was cool and the disks were golden. he told me that you can't put it back together, obviously since the dirt and oils from your skin, but also, if the drives are off by a tiny bit, they won't work. Hey red, put some plexyglass over the top and make it see through!

Yeah I saw a mod like that, it's pretty cool. Not sure if I would risk a good drive for that though, you need to do it in a 100% dust free area. It was suggested to leave a shower on and the steam remove the dust!

Too bad I can't access that drive though, I'd like to see the head go back and forth really fast.
