The Favicon Contest

If anyone is interested to try and make a "favicon" for IceTeks, go nuts. I can make one myself, but I want to have everyone do one too and we can then have a vote.

A favicon is simply a bitmap (256 colors I think...) that is 32*32 pixels wide, and as well as another that is 16*16 pixels wide. They can be different. Just post both. I might even make it so we can vote on them individually, rather then look at them as a "set". I will then combine the 16 pixel one with the 32 pixel one to make a faveicon.ico file and it will show the appropriate one for the appropriate size.

bahh, now i know. After making it, how do you get it to work for your site? Like if we made an igloo for here, what kind of code would you use for the favicon?

I'd put both images in my C++ compier and create an .ico resource file and call it favicon.ico and place it on my root. Then next time someone puts it in the favorites, it will show the 16*16 pixel image, and if they put it on the desktop or in a folder it will show the 32*32 pixel image.

You can also make a bmp file and rename it .ico and it makes an icon (heck, if you put the binary at the start of an exe, you can change it's icon, and corrupt the app as well

) but with bmp you can't control the seperate sizes though, it just stretches or compresses.

Oh, and if you want a certain section to be transparant, just tell me what color (make it all one color) and I can make it transparant once I put it in the compiler.

Hmmm....

Red, you can't see favicons, can you? With Mozilla 1.3, I had to edit a hidden preference before I could see them....

Yeah I noticed that too. By the way I just made one and added it, let me know what you all think.

I even took time to make it compatible with 32/16 pixels with 256 colors and also 16 colors, now that is dedicated.
