Video Driver

Can I use the latest Detonator driver for a GeForce 4 MX440SE-T card?

XP Home
MS-6580 ATX mainboard

The driver I'm using is Windows version, 4.0.7.2

My screen has a slight flicker, like you would see if a fluorescent bulb was going bad.

cool go get the new driver at nvidea site you'll have to look for it.

but there is one there for you card if it is the same g 4 i have in my dell xp.

it will fix the flickering and then just ignore the windows update site when it says you need a new vedio driver.

which it will do because the new one on the nvidia site is not signed by ms.

and they want you to have the one they want not the good one.

hmm, never heard of a driver do this. If it keeps doing it after, your monitor might be going bad, but if it stopped, then it is in fact the driver.

yep red there is something wrong with the one driver nvidia said so on one of their boards some where i read it. something like the refresh rate of the driver does not work like it was said to do. so they put an update out for it about 3 months ago.

was a surprise to me that was done but the update fixed mine.

so it must have been true?

Will the new one overide the existing one?

I hope it's not a monitor problem, just bought it in October. The flicker has been there since I went to this new pc. I figured it had the Windows driver since the card was already in the pc when I got it. Didn't want to start installing and uninstalling on a new machine.

No it probably won't keep the old driver, but there's nothing to loose if you install it, unless the new driver causes other problems...

I'd give it a try though, the current driver may be slowly killing your monitor.

Ok, guess I won't know 'till I try. I can always revert back to the old drivers.

The last video card I had didn't like anything, tried about 5 and one was no better than the other.

Got the new drivers, set the refresh rate from 60 to 70. All seems to be good now. It may have only needed the refresh rate changed in the first place.

Ekk 60, that's almost like staring at a strobe light!

Would you belive light bulbs have a refresh rate of 60 as well? They actually dim on and off 60 times / sec as a sine wave (AC is sine wave). It's the fact that it dims and does not turn on and off that makes it so it don't show as much.

With monitores, it is actually a "lazer" per pixel, and it covers the whole screen N times a second (where N is the refresh rate).

I didn't know how high to set it, it's now at 72. The next setting was 75. It is locked to only go as high as the monitor will support but I can go much higher than 75 if needed.

Red, I have heard that if power supplies are 50 Hertz instead of 60 Hertz, the electronics will run slower. Is that true?

Tokyo has a 50 Hertz frequency in case you wanted to know.

The eastern side has 50, while the western side has 60.

Set it up as high as you can.-

Honestly. It will be smoother and give you less eye discomfort.

seriously, I don't think it makes a difference, though it could maybe damage certain components depending what they are. g2g...

just got back here today and i see your with the new drivers.

it is good but the old ones might not have been able to work some games. there has been talk of the images on the screens ripping when playing some fast games. so the new drivers might just fix that and not appear to do anything else on your system other then fix the refresh rate error.

just use the optimal one for you system the computer will chat to the monitor and find the best one to use that way.

the flickering does make some sick but just the high speed will flicker too. only you cant see it but it will mess with your body and cause headaches and upset stomachs too. so keep that in mind and find the best one. good luck
