I had a brain storm to get a better CPU. Pentium 4 2.53...got all excited and started doing some research on my mobo, now I've discovered the mobo won't support it!

Are you going to get a new motherboard?

You may have to get new RAM too! :bsod: :roflmao2: Maybe even a new case! :bsod:

Yep, that's how it works. Especially if your computer is like a Pentium or lower, the way the screws go is different with newer motherboards, and so is the plugs such as usb and stuff.

Oh, if you decide to buy ram, use the crucial ad on the site, if you are buying online. :P (you might need to keep hitting refresh till it comes :P )

I just opened a can of worms with this project! I'm looking at a lot of money, even if I tried doing it myself. I know someone who might be able to do it for me and get a better price on everything too. I'll have to do some re-thinking!

I would say so! Those things are expensive! You will like the upgrade though. Plus, UD will run faster!

When I get a job, I want to save at least 20% for computer related things! :roflmao2: Unless I become an English teacher in Tokyo, then I don't think I could afford it! :banghead:

I'm getting things together now to list on ebay. I can put that money aside, (I'm such a tight wad). There are things here that should have been sold long ago. It's just a lot of work and not much money. :P Had my pics all made, cropped, resized, uploaded, then changed my mind on how I wanted to do the listing! :banghead:

It's still thundering here, may have to leave!

Did more research on the mobo...it will only support up to a 1.1 gig CPU and that is like 95.00 for a 370 socket mobo! I'm running 733 MHz so that would be a waste of money. :banghead:

Yeah, since they have it, get at least 2Ghz. I think the latest is like 3. something so maybe even go for that!

I looked aroung for the 3.0, it was 500.00. One did sell on ebay for 350.00 on a "but it now" auction. I found a 2.53 for 186.00. A big difference in money between those 2.

I just sent an email to my local pc store that I do business with. Told them what I was looking for, maybe do a trade-in. That may be the best way to go for me, at least I would have a warranty doing it that way.

Yeah, if you don't plan on having two computers, that would be the cheapest way to go. But if you have two... you can have two to crunch for UD. :P

That would be a good thing to do, but I will need the trade-in if I can get it. :P

I'd say go AMD, it will be cheaper and faster. Plus you have the option to overclock much more. You'd be surprised though wren, by shopping online for a new comp and considering the parts you can keep. I build a super great one 2.5ghz +, 80 gig hdd, 2 gig ram max.... for 750, cuz I didn't choose to install an OS and left some other parts out. Search around. Maybe it's time for a new computer.
