Any ideas on how to make this...yanno, happen, ever?
It's kind of sad that there's really no reason for anyone to go to Felucca, and the auto-ran pvp events are kind of a joke. There's no incentive for people to take risks and step outside of the flowers and rainbows. i like a lot of the new UO stuff but i really miss the days when people actually had a pair

Well, there was the talk a long time ago about introducing a deed that when double-clicked made a player able to PvP in any realm, basically making the whole world the Felucca ruleset, but only for those who double-clicked the deed to activate their character for it. I thought it was a pretty good idea, but it wasn't implemented. At least not yet.
But we have to get more players for any PvP to happen at all first.

Although Fel only is when I played on OSI the most, I did play when Trammel came out, and T2A. I can understand players having places to play where they have no chance of being murdered, unlike the 'good old days'.
However, I think also having dangerous lawless areas, with items/resources that can be controlled by successfully fighting over these area/patrolling these areas with your guild etc is the best part of the game.
So as long as there's enough worthwhile things you can only get in Fel I think it's probably just fine the way it is, though I sure would love to see Malas or Tokuno or someplace be pvp+ also.. I remember how crazy it was on Siege Perilous with Doom being Fel rules.

Ha, like the time when getting across the bridge south of Brit Bank was a rather chancy journey? I used to try and sneak around the backside of the Castle to make a run for the gate.
But I think you have the key to it. There has to be something (resources/items) that are not only going to bring people to Fel, but will keep them there. Or something they care enough to fight about. Powerscrolls may have worked for a bit when they were released, but after a while it just became the few Feluccan players getting the scrolls and selling them to the rich Trammelians.
I gather my resources in Fel, but that doesn't really count as bringing people to Fel to PvP, unless someone happens upon me and slaughters my miner.
Only other way is simply to have a bunch of people playing who really like PvP, and don't need a reason to fight other than wanting to fight. We used to have a bunch of battles like that here, but it was a long time ago. I was never really good at it.

Part of the fun of UO for me was periodically living in fear every time I left town. After a while I discovered I was a reasonably capable pvper...and I really miss being able to share that fun with others

The "pvp everywhere" system was actually semi completed. I believe the deeds exist and the flag to turn on the reputation changes were also created so it actually exists in some stages. It was done sometime during the reputation system updates so in its basic form it allowed for pvp within different facets.
It was never released in the game as it wasn't complete and got pushed to the back burner. Eventually what we would like to do is to possibly find a way to incorporate factions into a system of "All facet consensual PVP". This would basically include such faction features as owning towns, wars etc etc with slightly different rules (Rules would be determined by devs and a panel of pvpers on what they would like to see).
The game doesn't have any full-time consensual PVP options so this would help fill a void when pvp events through the event system are not available. Basically it is your choice to join this system so nobody is being forced into participating in something they do not wish to participate in.
For now, the auto-event system will help with consensual pvp. Red Squirrel is planning to work on last man standing and deathmatch options for the event system. We are also looking to add leaderboards and trophies for top participants to give more incentive to participating.
As for non-consensual pvp options, there are powerscrolls and soon to be champion spawn artifact systems that will be put in felucca (They exist in tram too of course, but the reward chances can be improved in felucca. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it). There are also several quests which are planned to be felucca only. Care must be taken with non-consensual pvp as not everyone wishes to participate in that portion of the game, similar to how not everyone enjoys being a crafter or merchant in game.

They are as long as there are enough people in favor of it. We hope to take factions to a new direction of consensual pvp. There's a ton of ideas floating about, just need to bring them altogether.d. wrote:I thought factions where going to be set to pvp anywhere. Maybe I imagined that.

my objection to all-facet pvp is that it tends to draw a somewhat...dickbaggish demographic that just makes the game not fun anymore. Seems to encourage the griefer type players that need to be shot with something with a little more heft than UO can provide. But i'd really really love to see all of Malas go pvp. Luna too. It could be a neat event...Luna guards unionize and go on strike

We could also make the guards also be the city workers like we did in fel.
They're there, but they don't actually do anything.
But in all seriousnes, think we may be leaning towards factions being pvp everywhere, but not sure yet.

Yes. Consensual pvp would be a system you sign up for. It would not be an automatic thing. Join if you like and if you feel ready to do so. If it turns out to have been a mistake, then you can quit the system.Elani wrote:Consent pvp implies that players can opt out of it if they decide to keep their cajones in a jar in their safety deposit box though right?
Those outside the system would not be able to interfere (ie: heals, ressing, wall of stone, griefing etc).

It's a whole lot funnier if you don't get to opt out of having your parts handed to you on a regular basis
i like the fel-only ruleset in general. Just the kind of people it usually attracts...meh.

I imagine there would have to be a temporary penalty for quitting the system, or else make the deeds themselves rather expensive or difficult to obtain.
Otherwise you'd have people joining, attacking, and then when they start to lose, run out of line of sight (if they can) and quit the system. Then they rejoin when they are healed up.

I think we'd make it so there is like a 7 day period of wait. So like if you join, you can unjoin but it will only take affect after 7 days. At least that's what I'm thinking. Stops people from trying to abuse it.

Would follow the same timeline as faction swapping rules. Cant just quit at a whim and rejoin whenever you like, there's a wait period. There may also be a penalty for faction changing.Red Squirrel wrote:I think we'd make it so there is like a 7 day period of wait.
