Bad Lag?

Is their a reason their's so bad lag at the moment?

Half the time I've been on lately it's been fine and the other half it's been laggy with VERY long save times. I was on for a 2 minute long save the other day, in the middle of the day, so not during the laggy back up times.

I have no idea what would cause it. I tried to move the backup job but it did not seem to do anything. If it could happen when I'm around it would help as I could troubleshoot it, but it seems to only happen very late at night.

I'm hoping when we go to the SQL engine it will just go away.

I don't know about the lag since I lag quite a bit, I can't tell if it is my wireless connection or something else. But worldsaves have been much longer than usual. I haven't experienced the 2 minute save, but I have seen numerous ones that were upwards of 35 seconds.

I'll try to remember to write down what time of day it happens the next time I see it.

One day that I was on it was 2 minutes saves throught the whole day.

Server is likely due for a reset/refresh and an item/mobile spawn check.

That would not explain why it only craps out during certain times though. Shards like Demise have like 20 million objects and don't lag. Most likely a process of some sort on the server, but wont be able to know unless I can catch it in the action but it happens when I'm sleeping.

Right now, 5:30pm central time, log in, took two steps, can't move, can't talk.
Then disconnected, log back in, which takes forever, slightly better, but not much. Can at least move a bit, and not getting disconnected.
Only 2 people on, me and d.
Definitely unplayable tho, I move a few steps then freeze for 30 sec.
Oh, spoke too soon, tried to type something to see how laggy that was and a min later still hasn't shown up, think I'll get disconnected any second now.
Oh there it goes, took about 2 min.
Now text shows up quicker, but moving is still really jerky.
Let me try a different char/account.
Yeah, same.

Maybe it's something between me and the server this time, cuz I think Ammo just got on and isn't laggy.

Going to check now. I do see MySQL going bananas so I think I'm getting closer to the cause. The UOG poller, which I'm working on now in dev.

I just deleted 8mil SQL stat entries from the UO Gateway poller stat table. I think that may have been contributing to lag. Realized I never made it so old stats get deleted. I'm actually rewriting a lot of the poller code. It was written very fast at the time so lot of things I could have done better.

That's assuming the lag is even that. I'm grasping at straws here. When I have more money I won't be putting so many services on a single server. I think it's just overtaxed.

Was on a bit ago, after server went down and back up for the day I assume and was running around just fine.
So whatever it was isn't a problem now, shrug.

Turned off the accelerated saves. The snowman crash caused saves to be more frequent but as it's an isolated case they were unnecessary as crashing again would not occur unless the snowman was spawned and killed.

Save times are now returned to the normal times.

Currently looking into all other aspects to try and reduce lag and save times.
