its not worth your time to try to tame on. they will get killed fast by most easy monsters. go tame a WW and mare. Thats the best combo. Or get a cuSidhe or Hiryu.

You're right, they DO suck. There are too many versions of them that scaling was unsuccessful. They were either too powerful or too weak. There is no perfect AW because they were a flawed design that was not thought up correctly. They should have never been put into the game because of such (not to mention their frame is too bulky and has caused a lot of other problems such as sitting in front of the rune books in the rune library).Trill wrote:He's right your wasting your time if you even think of getting an AW there so nerfed to fuck its stupid that they even put them in. Good call, they're a pretty stupid tameable, even if everything else about them rocked, their size is annoying.Death wrote:You're right, they DO suck. They are going to be replaced with OSI's greater dragons. I'm going to tell you now though, that they aren't going to be overkill in pvp, particularly with their breath attack. They will be powerful in PVM but will require attention to control and use. There will be some monsters they excel at killing, while others they will need to stay away from.ggkthx wrote:Good call, they're a pretty stupid tameable, even if everything else about them rocked, their size is annoying.Death wrote:You're right, they DO suck. We want to add these in, but we are being a lot more cautious not to replicate the AW problem as well as OSI's blunders from introducing them.
They are going to be designed exactly like OSI's version first, properly analyzed and toned into being a powerful 5 slot pet, but not a 5 slot pet without a flaw or weakness. So in conclusion, you can expect them on AOV, but we aren't looking to replicate OSI's cause and effect problems.

They are 3 slot to match the other 2 beetles of the same kin. Each beetle is given a unique power or ability that differs from the other beetles:Neurion wrote:what would be the chances of making frost beetles a 2 slot. A 2 slot with pack instict would be cool but 2 slot would be ok.
Giant Beetle/Smuggler's Beetle: Have a pack to store items in
Fire Beetle: Allows you to smelt ore into ingots
Frost Beetle: Has a frost aura attack and an occasional icy blast while mounted
All three beetles are 3 slots so that you can only have 1 at a time but still have a few follower slots for summons or other pets. They are specialized mounts that do not require taming or a secondary skill to control, hence their power and control slots need to be limited VS what an actual tamer can obtain.
So to answer your question, they will remain a 3 slot pet that anyone can ride. Their power is already high enough to merit the ability to control 2, especially for non-tamers. If you are looking for more powerful pets, there are plenty of them available to tamers.

Fire steeds and noxequus are taming pack animals that have an AOE attack. Fire steeds have an attack known as "immolate" that will create a 9 tile set of fire fields from the point of attack. If they are meleeing something, they can activate that ability. Think of it as being similar to using conflagration potions in a smaller area.Neurion wrote:Oh well lol. To my knowldge, limited on this shard, but the frost beetle is the only tamable pet with an aoe attack correct?
Noxequus are similar except they will activate their "contaminate" ability. They will also do it less often than a fire steed. The difference is their contaminate will poison anything that stands in their nox fields.
In addition to those 2 abilities, they both have a special that activates if they are being mounted (similar to the frost beetle's "Icy blast" ability that is only activated if the rider is attacked while mounted on top of it). Fire steeds have "Fire ride" that will drop flames at their feet repeatedly for several seconds (Try it at a barracoon with all the slimes, it's amusing). Noxequus have "nox ride" which is exactly the same except with poison.
There are other pets that can use AOE spells such as the reptalon as they have spellweaving and can use thunderstorm and wildfire for example. Some pets also know how to use necromancy.
