Why does some furniture require recipes and others do not? I understand that carp recipes aren't on this shard yet, so there is no way of obtaining the recipes for crafting something I want.

Wow, really? Rare furniture recipes just seems silly.
At what point did someone feel the need to nerf decorating?
(And I don't mean here on AoV, but on OSI or whatever)

Depends which piece of furniture you're looking to make. On OSI, there are several items that require a recipe before you can craft them. This is not yet the case for aov as players currently have the items by default in their craft menus as the quest system and recipe drops are not yet on live.

Which item were you looking to make? I can probably tell you the current and future status on it.

Well, OSI didn't exactly nerf decorating. They did it to bulk up their recipe system so it drops enough random recipes. It's very easy to get recipes from quests (Many of which involve very little effort). They also wanted a variety of recipes that aren't just weaponry or armor. That's why there's recipes for all kinds of different crafts such as alchemy and inscription (Which makes the system a lot more versatile in that most classes will bother doing them). It's fairly common to get furniture recipes. The only recipes which can be considered rare are the peerless crafted goods such as spellwoven britches or rune carving knife. The bulk of recipes drop in craftsman satchels with about a 50% chance or actually spawning a recipe along with a few magic items of low value.

OSI made recipes for craftables, which you can get doing heartwood quests. Seems kind of retarded to me as well but that's OSI for ya. Valor hasn't got the same setup though (thank god)[/img]

Oh. Chances are it's just creating the wrong item addon. I can verify and fix this later if such is the case.

Well, we will be doing that after the revamp. The reason it's not like that now is the recipe and quest system is not ready for launch so instead of having players wait for the recipes, we just added them to the craft system. You will need the recipe in the future, but for items such as these, they are easy enough to obtain or purchase.

Yeah I assumed so. It'll be cool to have recipes for elven stuff in heartwood. I'm guessing the wood saws will be fixed here too (I knew there was a reason why I was collecting so many heartwood and ash saws).

Ya, the runic saws will be possible to obtain through quests as well as other items although we will probably keep the tinkering runic tools as well (OSI does not have these) which will also be collected through the quests.

Yeah I have a bunch of runic saws now so you can get em through carp quests but they are pretty useless because you can just use an ordinary saw to craft with.

There are a few wooden weapons that can be made with runic saws but the majority of them are maces which isn't as popular a weapon skill like swords or archery. However, runic bokutos are quite nice as well as a few 2 handed staves which are great for samurai.

aren't maces blacksmithy? :?:
Yeah I was talking about the house deco craftables and making colored wood into boards, you can do that with a normal saw but I think on OSI you need a runic saw for each colored wood.

There are wooden mace weapons. Mostly staffs like gnarled staffs and wild staffs.

Ya, OSI did a dumb move there by making some items non-craftable (Black staff is also not craftable). However, with red's property system idea, it will easier to apply bonuses so we might end up tossing those into the crafting system as there's no need for them to be missing from the craft system.

Yeah it really hurts macing more than any other skill as I believe the only weapons not in the crafting system ARE macing weapons.

Ya it's true. Macing gets the royal shaft for the most part. Look at UOML. Diamond maces are bogus as they have repeated specials (Same as the maul). Mace fighters also don't have a native weapon capable of bladeweave, which is a very useful special shot. The only weapon they DO have from ML with a bit of decency is the wild staff.
