Mule Chars.

Post by Kwan »

I want to make some Mule chars. But I'm a bit confused, At the moment I have a Lumberjack that will be a mule/fighter. I want to make a Miner that is able to handle the Elementales him self. I also want to have another 2 - 3 chars. I have one started so far he is a Tailor, BS and a Tinker but I'm not sure what else to put on.

So if anyone can give me some suggestions on about 2 or 3 mule chars that will be able to craft anything I want, I would appreciate it.

Stratics is your best UO-friend.

To be an effective Carpenter, you need Cooking, Tinkering, Blacksmithy, Magery, Tailoring, and 50 Music (that will let you make everything). To make better weapons/armor from Carpentry, throw Arms Lore in there too.

Alchemists could use Carpentry to make the potion kegs they'll need to store their potions.

The rest are pretty much stand-alone, but some kills are helpful.

Smithy and Tinkers can use Mining.
Cooks are stand-alone.
Tailoring is stand-alone.
Fletching is stand-alone.
The only thing that would benefit those skills is Arms Lore, for more potent weapons.armor.

I'm sure I've forgotten some stuff, but you see how Carpentry really is the only crafting skill that needs other skills, the rest you can toss onto combat characters.

I made a miner/lumberjack/chiv/fencer to do my chopping and digging. He handles the elementals and wood fairies very well.

This is what I would suggest to you.
Follow these builds and you'll be hard core crafting in no time.

Build your crafter (human)

100 lore
120 tink
120 bs
120 bowcraft
120 carpentry
120 tailoring
<50 music or <50 magery
125+ str
10 dex
90+ int
(item) Book of crafting with stone
(item) +60 ASH
(item) <+25 skill tally "one for each trade"

Build your novelist (elf or human )

120 med
120 magery
100 alchemy
120 inscription
120 cooking
50+ tink
50+ carp
90+ str
10 dex
125+ int
(item) Book of glass blowing
(item) < +15 MR
(item) < 30% LMC
*note LRC is useless unless you just want to add it

Build your harvester (stone elf )

100 mining
100 swords / archery
100 tactics
100 anat
75 chiv
100 parry
75 tinkering
50 healing
125+ str
50+ dex
50+ int
(item) +20 mining gloves
(item) ele slayer tally
(item) a weap that does a hitspell with leech
(item) + healing/chiv/tink
(item) 70s resist suit
(item) Book Mining for Quality Stone
(item) Book Mining for sand
(pet) Fire Beetle (bonded)

Build your harvester (wood elf )

100 lumberjacking
100 swords / archery
100 tactics
100 anat
75 chiv
100 parry
75 tinkering
50 healing
125+ str
50+ dex
50+ int
(item) fey slayer tally
(item) a weap that does a hitspell with leech
(item) + healing/chiv/tink
(item) 70s resist suit
(pet) pack beetle (bonded)

these builds will allow you to gather any resource, or craft virtually any craftable item in the game.

It is possible to condense builds. But its extremely hard to build suits that give the bonuses you need to even attempt at making an item much less an exceptional one. And it really sucks if your harvester cant defend themselves, especially when you spawn that random ele or nymph.

Strongly disagree re: Stratics being useless.

Just sayin. I use it for something at least once a day on average.

Stratics is highly out of date, even with their recent updates. I would suggest UOGuide as it's usually accurate. Anything else custom is in the content database (Or should be) but efforts will be made in the future to inform players of custom items both in game and on the forums.

yes,
stratics is way out of date. Its an ok reference, but generally some good ole trial and error is your best bet. Ive created several information resources from information ive gathered over time. I do post that info from time to time. Garden tools is my most resent release.

I never thought about it, but I guess it wouldn't be too hard to build a template manager for character builds.

This is what I have come up with.

Basicy I eliminated any skill that i had on another template. I don't see the point of having skills more then once.

Levi (human)

100 lore
120 tink*
120 bs*
120 bowcraft*
120 carpentry
120 tailoring*

125+ str
10 dex
90+ int
(item) Book of crafting with stone
(item) +60 ASH
(item) <+25 skill tally "one for each trade"
[Jewls]x3 15 Music
[Jewls]x3 15 Magery

Cortin (elf or human )

120 med
120 magery
100 alchemy*
120 inscription*
120 cooking*
120 Focus

90+ str
10 dex
125+ int

(item) Book of glass blowing
(item) < +15 MR
(item) < 30% LMC
*note LRC is useless unless you just want to add it

Esoqq (stone elf )

100 mining
100 fencing*
100 tactics*
100 anat
100 chiv
100 parry*
100 healing*

125+ str
50+ dex
50+ int

(item) +20 mining gloves
(item) ele slayer tally
(item) a weap that does a hitspell with leech
(item) 70s resist suit
(item) Book Mining for Quality Stone
(item) Book Mining for sand
(pet) Fire Beetle (bonded)

Xifo (wood elf )

100 lumberjacking
100 swords
100 tactics
100 anat
100 chiv
100 Healing
100 Focus

125+ str
50+ dex
50+ int

(item) fey slayer tally
(item) a weap that does a hitspell with leech
(item) 70s resist suit
(pet) pack beetle (bonded)

I would put the miner and lumberjack together. Like I said, somethign amusing to be said for killing ore eles with a pickaxe or your hatchet. Not to mention with axes you can get the lumberjack bonus. Plus theres no real reason to have them seperate, why use two characters when 1 will do?

Collosus (My LJ/Miner)
100 Mining
100 Lumberjacking
120 Swords
115 Tactic
115 Anat
80 Healing (I'm actually up to 100 but thats with the extra 20 from vet bonuses)
70 Chiv

Ive never had a problem even with as many or 5 or 6 eles at once. I see no need to have two seperate characters but its up to you.

And honestly 70 chiv is enough for almost any template with few exceptions.

But an alternate before PSes is:

100 Mining
100 Lumberjack
100 Swords
100 Tactics
100 Anat
100 Heal
70 Chiv
30 Focus

In reality theres not that much need for focus a dexxer has many options for mana conservation including Mana leech on a weapon. Or 10 MR would generally be sufficient. Really all you need mana for it Consecrate. Ele's aren't so difficult you'd really be spamming specials and such. but again just my opinion.

Also, Pickaxes use Swords as their combat skill, it is only natural for Miners and Lumberjacks to be on the same template.
