@ Ony: There's one thing to be buff, there's another to be HOLYJESUS1HITKAHPAYYEOWINYOFACEHONKY buff. I'd rather have something that had 50 hp, was immune to Armor Ignore, had 95 for resists, dispelled summons, ate pets, and cast Magic Arrow every .20 seconds, over being 1-shot by Anakin. Smarter is always > dumbly buff.
There is a good point here.

Personally, I think the AI is fine, as monsters are already WAAAAAY smarter than normal shards. This alone is enough to merit a shift in difficulty without making them haywire. By giving them the capacity to "think" you've pretty much increased their odds of killing you.

What ends up making them haywire is not so much the AI, it's the casting intensity which makes them insane at fighting. When the intensity is high, then there's quite a difference in difficulty (For high intensity, see shimmering effusion). It's still quite possible to increase the difficulty without cranking up damage, just needs more thought.

Keep in mind also all AI "moves" are based off the actual skills. When a mob casts flame strike, it is actually casting it, and not just doing the same animation/sound with a set damage. So when you have bosses with high eval and what nto, they will hit hard. In fact, the ones that hold melee weapons are smart enough to cycle through their bag to find any weapons they have enough skill to use well. Ronins and ninjas will do this.

Why does difficult within UO ALWAYS have to mean hits for 100 dmg and has 50k hp? Why can't difficult be smarter, have more skills, hit for waaaaay less, but have incredible armor where it requires a group? Why can't it spawn 4 lesser versions with 5k hp that do nothing but prevent the main target from dying, until they're dead? Why does "UO Difficult" HAVE to mean more damage to the player?
This is because people will find ways to make it very easy and do shit load of damage. The only true way to make a boss actually hold up to itself is to crank the HP. Even then, I've heard of people doing like 200+ damage per hit in pvm.

And more damage to the player means more chance of dying. That's the whole point of a monster attacking someone, is to try and kill the person. Now, everyone has full 70 resists, so have to compensate for that.
Red, it's okay. It's okay to let good players find ways to kill stuff. Don't worry, the mobs you've taken the time to create will just respawn. It's funny, I've seen the UO transformation from player to admin enough times now, it is always the same. At first, everything is great. The new admin plays a lot and adds things into the game that are really fun. As time progresses, the admin plays less and codes more. The less they play, the more "detached" they get from the fun of the game. In the end, everything is about not messing the game up and making it too easy, not messing up the economy and making everything "right". You guys need to play more.

UO is just a game, games are played for fun. It's not fun trying to run after a lich while it's sprinting away spamming mini-heal non-stop. You can field PvP if you really find that fun :P It's not fun to go up against a boss and just be insta-killed and have to run to res, only to go back there and get insta-killed again. It's not fun spending hours taking down a boss, only to look into the body and find all crap. It's also not fun having a boss chase you all over the place constantly raining spells on you while your pets are biting it in the ass for 30 minutes. Do you not wonder why certain areas of AoV are never even ventured in? Maybe because it's too hard and the potential rewards are either too small or their chance is too small. I don't know, I play to have fun. I'm not just complaining for the sake of it.

I will continue to make things harder until my player char Red Squirrel can no longer tank 90% of mobs in the game with little effort.

The good news is, his equipment is probably getting the nerf stick fairly hard. 100 of every leech, yeaaahhh, that's got to go. :P (all legit stuff, just overpowered)

So.... still sittin here in doom with my freshly made tamer.... the innability to invis seems to only affect the harder to control pets. Plastics AW stopped obeying immediately while it seems my cu does what its told and only needs a slab of bacon after and hes good as new and wonderfully happy. Being able to invis the entire fight for DF while my pet solos him not needing heals, just 1 piece of food after, is pretty broken. NERF TAMERS MORE PLZ.

Lies, Cus eat Fruits and Vegetables. I disbelieve your tamer claims. Also, soloing with a Cu actually requires healing at some point.

Oh please, DF is cake. Go and try a peerless with a tamer. Dreadhorn will do, or try Shimmering Effusion or Interred Grizzle. Take a vid capture while you're at it.

And Squirrel, I want to see you easily take on Shimmering Effusion with your 100/100/100 blackhole. I did once see you try and take on Parox with him, and let's just say there was *lots* of gold lost in insurance (and that was with me throwing in occasional cross-heals too).

So your complaint is that a tamer cant solo something that apparantly no one else does either? Great argument there. Tamers must be hella weak amirite? OMG my tamer cant solo the hardest thing in the game without dying! HAX! THIS IS BROKEN!!! WTF RED?!? maybe if only I wasnt a noob tamer who simply stacked luck and had 30-40s all resist and no dci or fc/fcr or mr or anything even close to resembling skill..... or common sense.....

I don't think it's so much that as there are certain classes that can solo bosses, perhaps with less difficulties than a tamer. Archers for example, are better off as they can maintain damage while maintaining a safe distance (Cept for paroxysmus as the distance flinging doesn't work cause he'll drag you to him). Mages can do the same, but are not bad as they can be fizzled.

?

So that means that tamers are broken and causes constant bitching and complaining? Some things are most definitely better with different types of characters but no one is without options. Some monster just tossed your salad cuz you were all up on his nuts and you wish you had the range like an archer? Try standing back a bit and healing / tossing spells from there. Shouldnt be much of a diff location than a mage as in most cases ur playin the same game cept your tossing more heals and less pewpew. Still having issues? Pet dying to fast? Try a different pet. Look at the baddies damage type and your pets resists. Perhaps tanking Humus with your holy warhorse or ur 3 slot shit fire resist AW isnt the best idea.... Maybe those tiny lil red yoshi guys would do a little better.... WoW! They have 130 fire resist? And humus does mostly all fire damage? Hey that means humus heals your pets instead of raping them fairly often dont it? For every situation some pets are gonna be better than others just as some types of characters are better than others. Spend more time working out a better strategy and less time crying about how your last attempt failed and tamers are broken, and maybe you will get somewhere. If anything taming is still broken. But it needs more nerfing if anything. Some pets are affected more than others my the invis / no line of sight than others. And it seems to be the bigger harder to control pets have the most issues. Go figure right? (Nice design there) The lil dog would rather listen to its master than the towering AW who is having thoughts of eating your face anyways. The easier to control pets dont seems to have these issues as bad. Some seem to continue to behave normally with considerably slower loyalty loss. While those great big baddies who are harder to control? They tend to not listen. You take a break? They do to. Harder to control... must be hard enough ya cant invis the whole fight. Oh noes! I call hax! That must be broken! If anything, I wouldn't mind seeing some of the bigger pets ( Like AWs and crystal drags, greaters when they get here,) decide that when they are doin all the work and you go invis, not only will they decide they dont feel like doing all the work for you while you alt tab and fap to some porno, but actually be insulted by it, and start raping you instead of the monster you told it to kill.

After seeing everyone bitching and arguing in this thread for the past while, here is my input:

Everything is fine, shut the hell up.

You have 6 character slots, 3 accounts, 18 "blank canvases" that open up an extraordinary amount of possibly templates. Everything can be done solo, it just takes templates specifically for that task. Many templates are very versatile and can be used to do many things.

If you are failing at a task on one template, you have a few choices:
-Pick something else to do.
-Change your play style for that task.
-Change your template or create a new character specifically for a task you are struggling with.

The crap thing about MMORPGs now a days is that when people run into anything posing a slight challenge they cry about it being "broken" instead of taking joy in figuring out how to complete the task.

I enjoy the increased difficulty, it's the reason I stopped thinking about OSI. And I (as a Tard [Tamer-Bard: Tame/Lore/Vet/Music/Discord/Peace]), think that Taming is fine.

I understand what you're saying, but the thing about soloing the DF with a Cu, withOUT needing to heal it .. is bogus. I have a well-trained one that needs some input from me every so often on him. Especially since he likes to spawn some "underlings", use Blood Oath, and use spell combos. Also, the Cu's power comes at the cost of being able to heal. While he makes an awesome tank, he certainly is no death-machine. Sure, I can solo the DF with a Cu, but holy Jesus, that's like trying to use Magic Arrow for an entire Champ Spawn.

This thread has gotten way out of hand. This is not a discussion anymore, its a rant and cry thread.

Let me get a few things straight before I lock this thread.

[list:eeeb0711c7]
[*:eeeb0711c7]The Staff here at AOV does play. We may not play as much as some of you because we have to spend a lot of our time dealing with petty problems, cry babies, exploits, banning stupid people, and on occasion, actually working on some new systems for the shard.
[*:eeeb0711c7]The Staff listens to the players. We bust our asses on a daily basis taking notes, managing tickets, recording bugs, fixing bugs, and constantly trying to balance a system that no matter what we do, someone finds a way to unbalance that system.
[*:eeeb0711c7]You don't like something and think it needs to be changed. Last i checked this forum has a category specifically for this very purpose. Post your concerns there. Ranting and crying about it in some other thread does not make it happen faster.
[*:eeeb0711c7]Those comments worthy of note in this thread were noted. We appreciate the candor you have displayed. And we will take some of this into consideration after the revamp when tamers are reviewed.
[*:eeeb0711c7]For those who want to cry about everything because its not delivered to you on a silver plate. Balance is one of our top 3 concerns. If you don't think that our game play is not balanced enough for you then please, make some other shard your new home. No one here has held you at gun point and forced you to play on this shard.
