Has anyone noticed how horrible it is to play as a tamer! I dont know if im missing something or doing something wrong but it doesnt matter what i fight it just completely ignores my pets no matter what pet i use and no it doesnt just change targets like most spawns do on occasion like they are suppose to it completely comes after me and no matter how much someone or something else damages it it will still keep coming after me until either i am dead or it is dead it completely ruins playing as a tamer the point of a tamer is to use pets as a wall and use your bardic skills and vet to keep the wall up if your pet fails than you die as well and going invis doesnt even help cause than your pets stop doing anything and just get killed and if u come back out than the spawn hunts u down its riddiculous i can understand them changing targets every so often but than if something steps in there way again to protect that new target they shouldnt continue after it it makes me not even want to play anymore i cant even get to lord status every god damn time i get a good ammount of fame i get hunted down by a spawn that completly ignores my pets and no i dont want to hear about how i should change my tamer to a fighter/tamer ect cause if every tamer has to have fighting skills to avoid being hunted down by spawns than theres no diversity in the playerbase ruining the game

The AI on this shard is much more evolved than any other shard I've ever played on. It's set up to the monster you're attacking with your pets goes after the owner as well.

So be prepared. :)

I see a lot of non tank tamers who do just fine, the AI being smarter here means that your playstyle needs to get smarter to. Even mobs with the super AI become predictable when you adapt your playstyle to what your fighting. Being a tamer here is not something which takes zero effort or thought process to play (nice goin Red.) Your pet alone does not solo the game here while you heal macro/spam heals and go watch porn. Some things you will find are very challenging for tamer which they should be as they are meant to be challenging for anyone (try a demitel and be happy they dont insta kill pets anymore as I here they used to.) There are more options than just a tank tamer, and just about any combination is viable if you can learn to play it properly.

2/6, 60's resists and a bit of lmc, you should be able to run around and heal yourself while your pets keep hitting the mob. For some pets, its better if the mob constantly tries to hit you while your pets hit it (jackals have low resist, so this is one case). If you are complaining because on here you can't just spam "all kill" and sit back and do nothing, then shut up. Tamers are still easy to play, just have to invest a little into a suit and some casting to heal better.

It's easy to say that for you, me and plastic. For someone starting out or even playing for a couple of weeks, this is unrealistic. The truth is that the target switching here is still way too often. There should be a time cap put on all mobs for their target switch. A year or so back, I was one of the only tamers on the shard and Red/Death (Brunus too) made it the way it is now by watching me killing everything and thinking it was too easy (and I still managed to kill Humus solo without dying when he had a 1k HP fireball that hit even when invised). This is not such a good idea for players that may not be as experienced and/or don't have such an uber suit.

no, it's pretty easy. you can find random 1/3 ring and brace. then use every single other slot for armor with high resist (plentiful on here) with any lmc and mr. Sure, their tamers wont have much luck on their suit to begin with, but they should be able to tank pretty well.

It isnt that hard really... Ive seen several noobs with no gear at all play a tamer to great success since Ive been here. I use a tamer with 13% LRC suit and 20s resists to good success. You dont have to have the top gear on the shard as a tamer, as your pet is your weapon. Just learn better control and to anticipate whats could happen in 1 second.. Be ahead of the game and keep a plan in your head of what your going to do depending on what happens. Have an escape route in your head and think ahead. It may be challenging (therefor less boring) but it aint rocket science here people. Learn to play a QQ less, seriously.

The tamer AI is still being tweaked to prevent unfair targeting and game play vs tamers (Particularly during an ambush). The ai is meant to be challenging at times, not overly discouraging. All classes have something to worry about and tamers should be no different. As I said, adjustments are being made to the targeting algorithm based on various factors.

Im not complaining about how hard the Ai is i like it this way its the targeting that they do after a few seconds into the battle doing it every now and than isnt so bad but mostly all spawns do it at the very beggining. making every match a spam heal and run around until they get you with a few good explo flame combos. and thanks to everyone who didnt call me a noob or tell me to shut up.

You can cast invisibility or drink an invisibility potion to break the target if that happens. Were you soloing something or were you fighting monsters in groups? Also, which monsters were you fighting (Some monsters can change targets a lot more frequently than others).

I find if you have your pet attack it run off screen cast invis and run back for the most part if you stay towards the edge of the screen you should be fine. You really need to heal with magic here tho because using vet to heal your pet is pretty much impossible here as when you get close they know its you controlling the pet and attack you instead.

This is just MO, but a luck suit is pretty much a defining factor of a tamer. If a tamer has to wear resists and have very little luck, it defeats the purpose. This especially when it is very easy for an archer run around and gain a 1000 luck bonus with perfection without having a single piece of wearable luck on them.

You dont need resists, and I wouldnt rule out bandy healin.. as I said my tamer has 13% LRC so obviously im healin with bandies.. aint that difficult really. And the AI does the target changing thing to relfect real AI.. In any game Ive ever played no matter what the situation, YOU ALWAYS KILL THE HEALER FIRST. Your the healer in this case so you need to die. Same with anyone you pvp as a tamer... unless they are mentally retarded or you are using some weak pet that dies in 2 hits... they are gonna attack you, not your pet. Your pet is your partner, not your slave. Dont expect him to do everything for you.

Well this isnt pvp this is pvm and ruling out bandage healing on pets than you might as well a take out the veterinary skill alltogether whats the point?? that makes no since saying every tame has to use magery to heal there pets cause veterinary is pointless that means every tamer walks around doing the exact SAME thing wich ruins the game if everyone has to use the same tamer template and i have tried using invis as i stated but when u invis your pets stop attacking and let themselves get mauled its part of how the new system works so tamers cant just hide while there pets do everything wich i understand but at the same time thats a little riddiculous when its like that cause now the system makes it so the tamer cant hide and let the pet do all the work so you try to stay close to the pet so that doesnt happen and than the spawn kills you so its lose lose either u hide and your pets just stands there and dies or you try to heal the pet and the spawn comes after you and you get killed.

Hmmm pets shouldn't be acting that way. I'll get one of the team to investigate this and send me their results so just hang in there for now while we take a look at things.

There's still a few quirks with the pet / AI system that will be getting a look into.

Heh' yeah but lets think logically if a monster is being wrestleing by a mare and a wyrm or cu or 25 jackles; it is obviousely involved a pretty seriouse battle and if it is going to go for a strut and take its mind of that fight it should be taking extra damage while i strolls around fireing explotion mind blast energy bolts combo's. It is easily possible to take down a paragon here and heal ur ru or cu stuff all because the AI is so hell bent on getting the healer. I am actually lowering my Vet skill because its not necessary when your pet ends up being the mob's target maybe 25% of the time during a battle.

lol I do love the fact that solo leech archers and so phail here because of that though. These are prolly the most comon char's in UO. (add combat skill)+tactics+anatomy+bushido+ninjitsu (or other gay skill).
This shards player base would explode if idiots could play these kinds of chars here with out dieing every 5 mins.

In my "other" shard. I know a guy who plays 2 AFK archers in gaunt and at the same time runs around spirit constantly with a leech archer there killing nothing and i mean nothing but paragons and only when they are tanked by tamers.
There are tamers with no vet skill who never tank they wait for others to do it then spam all kill and consecrate weapon.

AI is slightly over board for plain Tamer vet's. Maybe it could be a little more based on attacking those doing damage. Still dealing with the leech problem. And still meaning the dude vetting the pets needs his head screwed on but not to the point where he spends every battle running arount on a horse closeing wounds or healing because the creature chaseing him is ignoreing his pets doing 100+damage a round. That being said pets could have thier AI bumped up to cast heal on their master since monsters are so God damn smart. Pets casting heal ect would only be fair.

I agree with this statement. Pets healing their masters occasionally would tend to support the "Your pet is your partner, not your slave." hypothesis.
