Ok I may be wrong here but...
A Shard on OSI is run on several different servers. So why can't RUO do this?

It could be done and I've thought of it, but it comes with it's extra maintenance, bugs and overhead. Rather optimize things as much as possible and have one very good server instead.
Now if I was coding from scratch I'd probably look at it more. I would not really want to put say, each facet on one server, but rather a fully load balanced cluster that is self independent but shares load among other servers. But that's behond our scope, and hopefully we'll always manage with one server.

People who run the runuo distro use it to do exactly that "run uo". Not many free shard owners are looking to invest time and resources to maintain a bunch of servers and implement a server line system (Which actually, isn't entirely effective as there are still numerous problems). It make more sense for the vast majority, to implement a world save system and run on one server.Kwan wrote:Ok I may be wrong here but...

There are other steps towards saving efficiency (Many of which AOV is looking into doing) but in general, runuo's worldsave system is not too bad and was a better idea than a server line system.
