This isn't a whiny "I quit" or "I'm gonna quit" or even "Should I quit?" post, though to some of you it may sound like one or that's what you'll take from it.

Long story short, I got sick of mining tonight, to try and get ingots for a smith quest (OH GOD I HATE MINING, also WTB Mining Gloves) and as I was trying to figure out what else I wanted to do I got really... Bored.

Everything I could think of doing, thought I could do, I didn't feel like doing.
The stuff that seemed like it might be fun I didn't think I could do. So what now?

(In Sanct Forum - Summon Wall of Text)
A couple people have been really nice and helpful since I've been here and yet I don't 'know' anyone on AoV.
I know the historic UO mentality is not to EVER trust anyone you aren't related to IRL, and maybe not even then, but how can I make new friends?
No one recruited me to come here or anything, I just searched for UO shards, researched the promising looking ones and settled here.
I like doing champ spawns a lot, all of them, could really use the scrolls, and have been told I should be able to solo coon... I'm not sure I can, with my unscrolled char, and my general 'UO rustiness' from not playing in something like 3-5 years. Not to mention I am really wary of spending an hour or so, pulling it off and getting raided, which in general is fine and all, but I know I'd be pissed, feel like I totally wasted my time, and probably be even less likely to try again.
I'm not really a PvPer, never liked dueling, only PvPed with my guild to raid & defend champ spawns, etc, so at this point in time the events don't interest me though I may change my mind once I'm more established and don't feel completely outgeared AND outskilled.
I like playing mages but feel like they're not the way to go right now, 100 mage/eval can suck sometimes, not to mention everything bad ass just dispels taking away my most potent spell options.
I have basically zero experience with Chiv/Bushido/Ninjitsu though. I had a Doom chiv swords I think guy at one point before quitting OSI but only played him a couple times after training him up.
The only fun thing I've been doing lately is stealthing around with Ceiling Cat but failing stealth checks at 100 stealth is annoying and has almost gotten me killed a couple times. Also, he's just a stealth/LP/mage so I don't even have stealing or anything entertaining. So when that gets boring I don't know what to do with myself.

Oh, quick aside, what reason would I really want a char to be an elf anyway? Aside from spellweaving which I don't really get or know anything about, so I just ignore it, they seem inferior to humans in almost every way?

I made a bard/tamer, tamed a nightmare, did something stupid and lost it, but tamed another finally, but again, unscrolled I feel like I can only tackle newb things.
No, I haven't made any sort of dexxer yet as I was advised to do, but I can't decide on a template or even a NAME, so until I do that...

Oh, and is the only way to get crafting powerscrolls the mind numbing quests? Which ones are/aren't available?

Anyway, (An Grav Blah - Dispel Wall of Text) : TL/DR : Somebody tell me what to do? I'm bored and lonely. :(

Well, tried soloing coon, died twice to rat mages & hell hounds and gave up before dying a 3rd time.

Any resource gathering skill is boring but some people enjoy that kind of thing. You can make quite a ton of cash off resources though (Particularly wood) and it's not hard to get wood once you have gm'd your skill. Ore doesn't sell for quite as much but the rare gems can sell for decent amounts.

If you're failing at 100 stealth you might be wearing heavy armor. Stick to leather and cloth as anything else is considered "noisy" and will ruin your stealth chances. Some monsters also have a nasty habit of revealing you.

Elves are good for magic related classes as well as resource gathering as they will often find more rare resources than humans. There are also some artifacts that can only be worn by elves (Particularly UOML minor artifacts or crafted artifacts). Many of these artifacts are magical and give generous bonuses.

Yes. Either crafting quests or trade is how you'd obtain them. There's a power scroll for each crafting skill on aov.

I'm frequently on Ceiling Cat, my stealth lock picker. shrug, easy money for getting started.

Bubbles is my necro mage, that was my main on Lake Austin too when I came back to playing UO when champ spawns first came out.

Optimus Prime is my crafter. Buttercup is my lj/miner.

It sounds like you are more PvM than PvP. Make an elf tamer. They can ride Cu Sidhes. Tame a mare, then use it to tame another and bond them. Buy a 110/115 taming scroll and go around collecting good pets. A good Cu or Hiryu will be able to rip through lots of things. Use music/peace at the beginning to make stuff easier to tame.

Then make a necro mage spawner with wrestling or a mage weap for champs. Use wraith form and wither the crap out of everything, you should not run out of mana.

The above should keep you preoccupied for a pretty long time.

you gave up too easy, sometimes even vets die on 3rd tier. try it a few more times and think of ways to get past that tier. 4th tier is easier to do once you get the hang of it. Remember, you can valor every tier, that will save you some time. And try to get at least 1 Grim Strike, its a greater AoA. Those help out a lot if you use them right.

Also keep in mind the champ spawn decay time here is much higher (10 minutes if I recall but it can change from spawn to spawn). This will make it so you don't need to be rushing through. The last tier can get very hard but it's doable solo. don't get discouraged if you die or loose candles. I've found that as soon as you hit 4th tier your main goal should be to clear the altar area so you can easily fight the champ without spawn around. next thing you know you'll actually spawn the champ just doing this.

i was gonna help you guys a few mins ago. I didnt realize there was some rivalry between the guilds. I apologize for the times I killed your characters, I tried to take it easy on you. I think you even got my archer the last time, good fights. Sometime soon I will let you know when I am soloing a baracoon so you can bring your buddies to "raid" me.

Ah, sorry then Doc. :)
See someone show up at Despise spawn, assume the worst ya know?

I attack first and ask questions later at spawns, but I don't ever start fights anywhere else. I can't vouch for the people I hang out with sometimes... but I personally don't mean anyone any harm. :)
I try to get along with everyone, even if we end up fighting sometimes doesn't mean we need to hate each other or hold a grudge. *shrug*

That's a pretty good attitude to have. I have been raided, pk'ed, ganked, you name it. In fel that's part of the game. Personally I suck at pvp but I enjoy a good fight and I am getting better. I have ended up becoming friends with some of the people I used to get raided by. Keep the "you suck noob" trash talk down and conduct yourself in a mature manner and you would be surprised how much better you're treated. Of coarse there will always be the immature "kids" that haven't learned how to act without supervision but you'll just have to put up with it.

A stealth lock picker is how I started. You can make good money as well as collecting nice tally's. Next you can make your favorite temp char and farm ltots. Once you get an RBC, Kasa, Grips, and any other thing you like you could start building a good suit for a mage or dexxer. You are already crafting so you should have some runics by now, this will help fill in your suit.

At this point you should be ready to farm some AoA's. Get your lord status and hunt less frequented locations in fel. All this should keep you from getting board for a while. Good Luck.

yeah, the pvm on this server is great. Lots of rewards and not a lot of hunting pressure. Especially in fel, the aoas are nice to put into a suit.
