Provocation as a PVP tool

Post by E.Machine »

Was wondering if this would be possible....

If you used provo on two players, (magic resists making it possible to not work on them), for the next 10 seconds or so, all attacks they cast only go twoards each other.

that possible? I think it would be cool.

Why would Magic Resist help them resist it? It's not magic. Focus would make more sense, because you have to "focus" to keep the music from diverting your attention.

If you give someone a program, you will frustrate them for a day; if you teach them how to program, you will frustrate them for a lifetime.

it makes sense, since you can peacemake other players. You should be able to provo and disco them. I remember a time when I was trying to kill Kitka's bard and she kept fing peacing me. It was on demise and I was on red subotai... it was very frustrating.

the time with Kitka's character, Shiri IIRC, was very frustrating. Especially when I used the numpad for all my casting/specials/bandies/etc. I had one hand on the mouse and the other hand was constantly going from tab to numpad. If it would have been anyone but her, I probably would have given up...

It was priceless hearing her hiss, in her heavy polish accent, MUDDDERFFFFFFFUKER in ventrillo.

i say its a good idea to use provocation in pvp i think if someone has 120 provo and 120 music they should be able to provo a blue onto another blue flagging that player that was provoked criminal.. it would be like a 50% or less chance and if failed than the musician is flagged criminal. It would just be interesting .. or if the player that they are provoking is red or gray than the person they provoke the red/gray onto is than flagged to the target. Just an interesting little concept

Would be a neat idea but I would say not ALL attacks should go towards each other. Maybe a certain percent of attacks get directed to the provoked target (depending on the bard's skills). Would be kind of neat to see in action (Fear the pvp bard...that harp isn't just decoration!!)

Would be interesting, though not too easy to code. Need to somehow reroute targets around and such. What I could do is simply make it so it changes the combattant, but it would only work on dexxers. Like it would force an archer to start hitting someone else.

Or I can simply make it so you can provoke mobs on people, that alone would be lot of fun. Or is that already possible? lol

Its not. And if you are going to make it only work on dexxers, a bard mage will be totally overpowered. The idea has a nice base, but I'm pretty sure OSI didnt implement it for a reason.

I think provoking mobs on people would be cool.

Slightly off topic, does anyone remember the days before discordance when it was called Enticement? One of the biggest commodities on the OSI server I played on were colored sandals. We would entice NPC artists and brides to follow us out of towns and kill them for there sandals. They would say stupid things when you got too close to them like, "It was you playing that lovely music."

Fun times.
