Reagent Plants (Beta)

Post by Death »

Reagent plants were added into the game. They currently only exist on the tokuno islands and are considered to be in testing phase at the moment.

What are reagent plants?
As the name implies, they are plants that produce reagents. On servers such as demise or OSI, reagents are normally spread all over the place for players to collect. On AOV however, we decided to take it up a notch and create a harvestable plant instead.

How do reagent plants work?
Simple. You can find these plants growing wild around Sosaria (For now, you can check around the Tokuno islands). You can use CTRL + SHIFT to help you locate plants. When you've found one, double-clicking the plant will allow your character to de-root it and gather the reagents

Where can I find reagent plants?
While this system is still in beta, you will only find these plants in Tokuno for the time being (If successful, they will begin to surface in different facets). Each reagent plant has a certain growing location. For example, nightshade prefers the damp swamps as a growing location and would never be found in the desert or sandy areas. Finding the rest will be up to you to discover.

Who can find reagent plants?
All players can find plants. However, not all reagent plants were created equally. Some plants, such as nightshade, have a toxic history and may have a chance of poisoning you. Your skills and knowledge of plants might come in handy when harvesting them. For example, your skill in poisoning gives you more knowledge of toxins, allowing you to pick nightshade without worrying about poisoning yourself. Your race and the facet you're in also has an effect on how many reagents you get from each plant.

When can I gather reagent plants?
Reagent plants can be gathered in tokuno provided they have grown. Plants can grow slowly so you might not be the first one around to pick them all. If you don't find any plants in a certain location, they either don't grow there or were already picked. Keep your eyes opened to locations you've seen these plants and you'll know where they like to grow.

Why are these reagents in plant form?
First, I would like to clarify that not all reagents are in "plant" form. They were named as such as a plant can be "harvested". There are spider silk cocoons for example, which can be harvest for silk. We decided to go this method instead of random reagents as it creates more atmosphere for the shard and it's fun to know your geography as these reagents will grow in specific areas. Many reagent plants blend in well with the environment they grow in unlike reagents tossed around everywhere which stick out like a sore thumb.

What would be really nifty is if you could somehow add a placeable "Farm" in the housing options, and create your own farm to grow reagants.

We were thinking about that possibility for the future of planting along with some new plant resources but we decided not to go through with that yet as red was planning to create a better property system which would make bonus adding items a lot more simple and clean to create (Right now, it's pretty bad). Perhaps in the future though.

Also, not all reagents are specifically "plants". For example, there's no logical way of making a living plant that produces grave dust (It's possible with wild reagents as I made them as tombstones instead). So if we did decide to do this, only certain few reagents would be in the plant system such as mandrake root, ginseng and nightshade.

Well... grave dust could be dug up by a player with mining in graveyards.

Sulfurous Ash could be planted only on those fire tiles.

Nox crystal on swamp tiles

Demon blood... uh... hmm.... I'll get back to you on this... lol

Hmm the grave dust one is interesting but we'll see how the tombstone idea works out.

Sulfur ash is harder as you can't get to them if they were put on lava tiles

Nox crystals and demon blood I'm not sure of yet.

nox crystals could maybe form in parox acid, and in swamps maybe.
