Atlas of Translocation
(magery spellbook or a BOD book)
+15 Lockpicking
+15 Mining
+15 Hiding

When double clicked, gives a targeting cursor that is used on a map to teleport the user to that location. Uses charges; charges are refilled by using watergems.

OR, the harder way (I would imagine anyways...)

Using the BOD book as a template, you simply fill the Atlas of Translocation with maps, using the filter (fel/tram; difficulty) you select the map you wish to use and when 'dropped' from the book it uses a charge to teleport you to that location while leaving the map in your pack to facilitate digging it up.

Lets face it, with the resources on the web, treasure hunting has lost its mystery. This facilitates a tedious process. I also suggest it being a special drop from Colonel Sanders.

I like the idea. But this does take the hunting out of treasure hunting.

Plus, with what you get from treasure chests/sos chests, it's still hardly worth it. Maybe if you got something a little better than a war mace with 2% physical resist (and other items with similar shoddy mods), this idea would be a bit more feasible.

But I think it might work better if instead of teleporting you to the location, it gives you an arrow (like the arrow you get when you track player or monsters), that leads you to the treasure. The instant teleport seems excessive to me.

Also, all the spots are documented on stratics. So with enough time and effort, you could just mark them. I made a full set of Fel t-map spots once. But when Dumples' Rune Library fell, it was looted and I think it's in somebodies' private house.

That's the thing. When hunting, you don't actually hunt, you recall. This would give you a place to store the maps, another reason to use the water gems (& to farm them). I get bored of tmap hunting after 2-3 maps, there aren't any good pieces, the heavy loot and the monsters chew up a lot of time and i hate wandering around in the woods looking for a spot. This toy would make getting to the business of actually DOING the map much faster, besides, there is always the risk of teleporting directly into a mess of wyrms too! It wouldn't make tmapping more profitable, simply quicker and less A.D.D prone....

Interesting idea, but not really feasible as it would take a ton of man power and mapping to code in for an underused skill.

Breathing life into cartography is something we want to do eventually (There are a few ideas such as those relics and terraforming) but it's one of those tasks that's outside the scope of the shard at the moment.

As for artifacts though, I'm sure we can think up some interesting cartography ones that are rather unique.

One thing that would breath a lot of life into treasure hunting and fishing up sos' would be to merely take a look at the loot pack and adjust it a bit.

At the minimum, adjust the armor and weapon mod intensity. Getting one to two mods per item at 10-30% intensity is pathetic. You'd be doing infinitely better killing ratmen or ettins for 20 minutes. The gold is, of course, nice. And the regs, gems, and scrolls are a nice bonus, considering you can sell the latter two for about an extra 1k.

I know that sos's bring up the bonuses before the chest itself, but those aren't really big sellers. And if you do enough of them, your house will be overflowing with these items in no time. And you can also get nice items from the spawn from t-chests, but again, I don't see this as a justification for how truly bad the loot from the chest is.

I know you have plans for relics for treasure chests, and even though I don't know any specifics for it, I like the idea. Mainly because it will make treasure hunting a viable thing to do. But as you said in this thread, the relic system is outside the scope of the shard at the moment.

But please don't let the loot system of the chests suffer until the relic system is securely within the scope of the shard. Many things could be added to chests, outside of the upping the intensity of magic items. Various chances to get masterpiece items and resources, decoration pieces, rare diaries of the captains of the sunken ships. (Or for t-chests, diaries of the man who buried them and how he came about the treasure).

There are many non-artifact items that can be added to the chests, either fished up or dug up, that will lend an air of adventure and anticipation to the system.

*EDIT: Oh, and jrhather, sorry about leading the thread off-topic.

Ya the chest and SOS chests are something I really should fix up as it's been my incentive to do so for numerous months. Unfortunately time is a bitch.
