I'll be taking a break from the shard for maybe a month or two. After spending almost 2 grand on my new home server and running into road block after road block (having to RMA the motherboard, and such) it's taken lot of my time. Then I still have to install the OS and configure everything then slowly migrate to it.
Once that's done I will continue coding my C++ set of libraries so I can then use them to start coding a rather large project that will actually (hopefully) make me money to make up for the server cost as well as shard cost, and profits. This project is a web hosting control panel system. It will basically fully manage web hosting environments and be very easy and fast to deploy. I will then start offering hosting starting with this server, then get more servers as I need them.
I will still be available to process donations or attend to in game issues, but as far as coding goes it will slow down. Also with all the people that quit I pretty much lost all motivation to code for the shard when I can be coding for something that will make me money, not cost me money.
I still want to eventually do the SQL stuff, but what I may even end up doing is code a emulator form scratch once the hosting is off the ground and going smooth, as RunUO has tons of stuff that needs to be redone, and its at a point where coding from scratch is more efficient. At that point I'd release it and this would become the official shard. Hopefully this project would end up increasing the population.

For those wondering my status I will still be coding for the shard while Red is working on his other project. However, I won't have as much time to code come September when I return to my studies (Which makes it pretty much impossible to become motivated to code the shard on top of coding at least 4 other things in various languages).
I'm striving to get the masterpiece system done this week (Ya I know lol. I keep saying that but I'm actually doing it this time and making some decent progress). That and quests are still my priority so the prototypes will still continue to make their way into the game (Delivery quests should be available in a few weeks). Of course, all bugs and junk will also be fixed as they arise.
As September rolls around and I won't have as much time to code for the shard, I will likely be cleaning up the spawns and fixing up many areas of the shard to give a better atmosphere. There's still a lot of places that I can fix up and I thank the players who have been pointing out some spawning areas and places they'd like to see spawned.

1) Nah Red's been wanting to do the web hosting thing for awhile and finally decided to pick it up. The players quitting thing just pushed him more towards working on something where he could make a profit out of it. 2) There should be no masterpiece weapons of any material other than regular iron or boards.
3) Existing masterpiece weapons will be receiving the additional bonus points according to their scale. If it proves to not be working out then there will likely be an alternative.

I just tried to craft one using valorite, but when it came up as masterpiece, it 'ironed' out.

My time will actually be INCREASING as I'm taking online classes so homework will consist of UO and typing. I'm taking C++ classes and programming classes and I hope to bring those skills INTO AoV and bring more people back. Working with Death and Red has been an experience I will never forget and I hope they come back to full time soon!

Just to bring this back to topic, yes we're still on break, and no we're not pulling off the demise of the shard. (no pun intended)
We're still taking note of whatever we see that needs to be fixed/added/finished.
I'm HOPING to have a working prototype of my hosting control panel by the end of this month. I finally thought of a name for it so that's a start (Called it ServerWeave) Then by the end of November to have it usable to the point where I can start up my hosting.
I'm hoping to start back up on shard coding by end of December/January and just drill through all the stuff we've been wanting to fix/add/change etc. There would probably be a set of mini update/fixes, followed by a very large "final" update. Final meaning it would finish up lot of the hanging systems and put the shard in a state that it can run itself and be considered complete. Then we'd probably spend about a month monitoring all these changes for bugs/issues and then do another update. At that point we'd either add new content or leave things alone and just perfect it more, such as do server optimizations and that kind of stuff.
So in short, we have not forgotten about the shard. The break is just not over yet, and I'm busy with my other project. 8)

Our plans for ML completion are not shattered. Just, the break may be more extended.
Good news is, we are starting to plan out what we will do, and in what order. Nothing on this shard was ever really planned that well, we just thought of something cool, coded it in a few weeks, added it. Now we have a bit of a mish mash of random content and not all of it fits. This will change.
It may take a while, but what is coming, will be big, and it will be good. There may be shards out there that have FULL ml, but did they code it themselves? probably not. It's premade scripts that are buggy and wont be easy to support as they are not the original coders should something go wrong. We are not a cookie cutter shard, we strive for perfection and quality.
Content that goes into this shard is custom coded and we think of everything from security, performance, and expansion. If by chance we do put a premade script (which we did a few times such as the chat system) it is reviewed, tested, modified, to fit our needs. I've even put premade stuff only to scrap it completly and recode it myself, such as the buggy tournament system we used to have.
Don't quit on us now, give us about 6-8 months and what will come will be something you were glad to not have missed. Do not dispair on the lack of changes and content. We have plans, and they are big.
