The person who demolished their house should be able to place a new one over their rubble. Sounds like there's still some problems with this system.

I've fixed this like 5 times. I don't know why it keeps breaking. I'll fix it again when I get home after I figure out the crash.

Try placing a smaller house in the rubble (One you know will fit, try the classic square houses). If it fits, then it should not be a problem with the rubble. It might be an issue with the area you're in instead (Trying to place a house that's too big, too close to paths/houses, etc).

Just stand on your rubble with that char for a bit or place a temporary house if you can (Smallest size will do fine).
