Weapon speed/damage calculations
I'm playing around with weapon damage/speed calculation on TC1. I think I have it calibrated well, but I need more people to go test out the changes. Perhaps through some duals or what not.
Some caps will also be raised. No specific info on this yet as its not set in stone, but the changes on TC1 are most likely a go unless someone notices something that is way off.

Part of these changes are also implementing weapon speeds being in seconds. I may actually use the real OSI formula as it may be good enough, I'll have to see once every single weapon has been converted over. (need to specify the speeds for each one)

Just converted the weapon system to use OSI like speeds. So weps are now rated in seconds. The formula I used is slightly different then OSIs but same idea.

So far the current setup is "set". I strongly encourage everyone to go do some pvp/duals etc on TC1. I need to ensure the formulas are ok and not too 1 sided. Try macing, swords, fencing and archery as they have their own caps now.
Also knowing these changes will give a chance to work up any possible required template changes.
Mage casting will also be getting an overhaul, but thats not been touched yet.
Just trying to balance things and fix issues before they become bad. Like right now with the caps it makes stats kind of useless, so the new system is more stat based. ex: str for damage, stam for speed. (for dexxers)

the idea of mage casting being re-vamped really scares me. It's one of those things were I feel it would drastically change the game, and it will either make it new and fun as hell, ,or ruin it =p.

Yeah and the revamping is mostly back end, like change how spell timers are done and such. Theres some exploits in the current system that allow to cast faster then server allows. (thats why people with PlayUO cast faster) so that will change. Though I did not start on this yet and I may not even touch it for a while.
I'm mostly concerned about the dexxer changes now, and strongly encourage people to go test out dexxer templates on TC1 through duals and such. Wep speed and damage is now calculated completely differently now so I want to be sure I did not nerf or buff them too much. From my own testing it seems ok but this is something that requires lot of feedback from dexxers and mages (against dexxers) before its implemented.

I havent tested the wep speeds for bows in PvP on TC1 yet and i dont plan too.
I took a char with 150 dex and 118 str with arties and my 2 best bows on the char AND 3 or 4 of the better arty bows of varying types, then i headed over to Vader Spawn to check out the changes.
I cannot even begin to express how bad the speed is now with ANY bow. the elven bows are about a third as fast while hitting for only 7 more damage as compared to on the normal shard, and I had on a gimped out super arty dream sut on TC1.
4 Secs between shots with an Elven bow? Are you kidding me, I will not play UO anymore if it is finalized as such ( I realize it is not final, thats why i took a look at it BEFORE release)
No, compared to the current balance of the game, unless magery was changed drastically, dexxers would become a non issue. For any good mage now dexxers are already easy, but with only being able to shoot one arrow per 2 FSes (at current mage speed the elven bow is not even capable of interuppting the level 7 spells) a dark jedi knight actually got off 2 FSes and a MA in the time it took a Yumi between shots, and that same yumi does the exact same damage it was going on play shard, that is NEVER going to work.
I Am willing to test this further, but I certainly hope this is nowhere near ready to release, because from the perspective of an Archer, releasing it anythign at all like this without severe changes would kill the game.

keep in mind that if a wep says 4secs, it does not really mean 4 secs. Theres lot of factors that go into play, stamina over 100 alone will double that, then theres SSI, some spells/abilities etc.
Though there may still need tweaking regardless so this is why its important to get feedback.

Weapon speed/damage calculations
I loaded up my Meleer and suited him up and tested with BH Kata and a Blizzard and a Dismoount King. Melee does not seem to be affect nearly as bad as Archery. Kata seems to be pretty close to as fast, Axes and pole arms seem to be a little slower but hit a little harder than before. Didn't test Macing yet but I will check that out as well.
As it stands with archery, like I said, I won't play like that, PvM or PvP, at all., the current speed settings on bows are fairly balanced comparative to melee and magery (Granted to fairly minor tweaking to current might be in order, but not a comeplete destruction of a class).

I wasn't going off what it listed I was going off my counting aloud. And the Char I tested with had 150 Dex 155 Stamina, It is not a minor change from how things are, it is very drastically different and I dont see how it could be balanced but if you are on right now Ill be logged back into the TC1 to look at it with you.

A note for players:
We encourage the players to help us test the speeds, so that we can find the right values for the weapon changes. If players do not volunteer to help test the changes, they will be worked by the developers and released on live.
Now is your opportunity to let us know if something is too quick or too slow (Keep in mind that the speed on the weapon is base speed. Stamina, dex inc and such will obviously make it quicker).
If the changes go on live and you are unsatisfied, we will look into it and change it as best we can but just like voting, if you don't make your voice heard, you're not doing yourself a favor.

And I appreciate it, since as a dev I can't think of everything and what I figure looks ok may not be, so good to have feedback from different sides.
I did some minor tweaking on TC1 but did not test yet. (actually working on the CMS right now)

LOL. Yep swinging max speed at 10 dex would be kinda broken xD. When ya finsih I'll hop on and check it out against the PvPesque NPCs around brit moongate, might be tomorrow (if you finish it tonight that is) before I can hop on though as I'm about to hit the sack and catch some Zs.

All fixes are on TC1 currently. Everyone feel free to go test things out as this big update will be put in on live probably sometimes this week.
It does not have everything I had planned such as the event system but theres lot of fixes that I'd like to see go on live anyway, such as peerless entry key system. (gump related changes) and summon animations.

The swing speed for archery seems MUCH better. I can actually hit the swing cap with a decent fast bow, Max Stamina, and SSI 25 XD

I still feel that archers should stay about how they were before and bump up melee. Given that melee actually has to be next to their oponent and all.

damage wise melee will still be better. Well at least in pvp. The outlined caps don't affect pvm.
