Maine/New Brunswick

Since my lease expires next month, and since I flunked college, I’ve decided to move to Calais, Maine. The town – pronounced like “callous,” interestingly enough – shares a border and a history with St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and the cities have a combined population of around 8000 people.

I feel like I’m making a big mistake, but I would feel that way if I stayed too.

Well since Canada is close, then its a good choice.

But if you failed, how will you manage to make money to move out on your own? I'd solve that one first.

I work full time and STILL can't afford to move on my own, life is tough out there, mortgages are expensive, and so is everything else.

My computer, Internet access, snow, and eventually a small circle of friends. I’ve come to the realization that I don’t do anything, even after moving to a large city near Nashville. (The “dating scene” is a notable exception and my primary cause for concern.)

Eh, Minnesota beverages are okay. Not the best i've had. I think Clueless would agree on this stuff though.
Cool things about Minnesota-
The lakes.. at least the ones that are presentable.
The friendly Minnesota people.
The animals, I swear to god that i've never actually seen a duck or a goose until I went to Minnesota.
The thunderstorms (compared to Portland they were pretty cool. Never seen so many lightning bolts in my life before)
The state fair and the amusement park.
The water towers (we climbed a small one, view was pretty awesome)
I know this is weird but the roads, they were sooo smooth. I don't recall running into a pothole.
Outdoors, there was about a 10 mile radius of woodland area by the place I was staying.
The police there also actually have a sense of humor. (We were joking around with some that were off duty and I karate chopped one. I made the Bruce Lee sound as well)
I'm sure Clueless will add onto that.

Bad things you ask?
Mosquito's.
Sudden change in weather, one day it'd be 70 deg. the next day it would be 50 deg.

Well this is a story, I guess it'd depend on where you stayed. But it was august and the AC died. So we had to go a night without it. Only way we could get cool air in was at night with the door open and a fan holding the screen door open. Course I had to sleep on the couch which was 5 feet away from the door because the bed was a single. That freaked me out a little bit, I thought I was going to get stabbed if I feel asleep. It didn't help that there were 5 people in the same room during the day.

But Main / New Brunswick sounds like a nice little town. If anywhere i'd go live in Dublin, Ireland.. in a friggin' castle! but thats just me.

I think people who write “pop” do it because it’s the easiest to spell.

pop is the real name for a carbonated beverage "soda" is a type of pop, and so is "coke". pop is more generalized and accounts for all types.

Soft drink is ok too, but rarely used. In french its the best though. Translates to gaseous drink.

Funny. When I was growing up in Texas, we used to refer to soft drinks as "soda". Lately, I've been referring to it more and more as "pop".

Looking at the “other” totals: soda pop, soft drink, tonic, etc. (I rather doubt some people answered accurately.)

Could be because my vision sucks, but, it looks like "Soda 50 - 80%" and "Other 50 - 80%" are the same color. Other looks like its barely tinted green and the Soda is faded a tad bit though. Still confused the hell outta me.

I just ordered my first ticket – $197 for Amtrak. I’m scheduled to leave at 14:44 on 10 August and arrive at 1:45 on 12 August.

My route:<ol type='1'><li>Birmingham, AL–Washington, DC</li><li>Washington, DC–Boston, MA</li><li>Boston, MA–Portland, ME</li></ol>
By train! I’ve never ridden a train before, so I’m excited. I haven’t ordered the other tickets yet, but I’ll be going from Portland to Bangor and from Bangor to Calais by bus.

I feel weird.

Nice, choosing Amtrak. I went from Portland Oregon to St. Paul Minnesota on Amtrak, and it was an AMAZING experience. The seats are huge and clean. Employees are really nice. They have one cart where its basically windows, for viewing and stuff like that.
When I was passing through South Dakota, I was bored outta my mind since there was nothing to look at. I saw maybe 3 cows and a dog. But, they did bring on a lot of cool stuff. I got to hug a moose, that doesn't happen very often. They had a bunch of stuff like that on the lower floor to keep you entertained. Even if its not far, don't forget the word puzzles!.. I made that mistake.

Just a FYI, if you ride coach and there aren't many people. Set a bag on the seat next to you and pretend its not yours (but don't get it stolen). People will think its taken, then you'll have 2 seats. Lying on the two seats can get a little uncomfortable depending on your height. I had to lay my head against the glass window because the middle tray was broken and it was riding into my ass.

I'm surprised your ticket was 200$. It is traveling time so prices will be high but my ticket was 130$. I managed to bargain it down to 60$

Aye np. I was kind of worried myself, first time traveling alone and I was 4 states over. But it was fun. I'll be taking Amtrak down to San Fransisco sometime before september.
