Broken Charlie
So, I spilled liquid in my monitor, took it apart, cleaned it successfully, and then broke part of the casing when I put it back together.
Pictures forthcoming.
This hasn’t hurt Charlie in any functional way, but aesthetics matter too. She doesn’t snap shut, and she doesn’t take the abuse that ThinkPads can normally be expected to take. Sadness all around, but I’m not gonna deviate from my upgrade cycle.
I still love her.

What kind of upgrade cycle do you have? Mine is somewhere around 'every 7 years and counting' right now.

I’m gay, actually. (But no, no boyfriend either.)Cisco_Kid wrote: Is there any kind of girlfriend in your life Chris?
Umm, if I were on a desktop, I would probably just replace parts as they die, because performance isn’t that important to me. However, I get excited about all the new advances in battery life and weight in notebooks since I take mine everywhere, so I haven’t really developed an upgrade cycle yet. I just meant that I’d try not to let Charlie’s cosmetic defects influence me to upgrade sooner than I should.Cisco_Kid wrote: What kind of upgrade cycle do you have? She’s still hot, BTW.

Wow, can you fix your (as my un-trained mind percieved) monitor after spilling this "Liquid" upon its person?

Apparently. I just decided to take apart the LCD and go at it without any idea what I was doing, which might have been a bad idea now that I think about it. I just hate the idea of calling a professional. (I should’ve called a professional.)flowergirlajg wrote: Wow, can you fix your (as my un-trained mind percieved) monitor after spilling this "Liquid" upon its person?
I’m proud and shocked that the monitor still works. It’s neat inside – layers of clear plastic sheets and junk. There’s a “high voltage” sticker inside, so I don’t know how safe it was. (I did cut myself though! Some of my blood is in Charlie, taking our relationship to another level.)

lol you opened up the actual LCD? Thought once you do that, its screwed.
Try putting a bit of water where it says high voltage.

Okay, so I opened the monitor back up to clean some fingerprints, and I broke one cable and tore another one a bit. The picture’s extremely dim and distorted. Callink Lenovo tomorrow. Probably won’t be on the forum for a bit.
Why can’t I just leave things alone? Feel free to laugh.

Your entourage took a left at the weeping willow rather than a right. Unfortunately Stasi switched the signs that read 'this way to complete safety' and 'this way to gigantic mutant killer chihuahuas'. Purely by 'accident' I am sure.

Well, in that case, I’m taking applications. There’s no pay, but you do get to hang out with me!Cisco_Kid wrote: Your entourage took a left at the weeping willow rather than a right. Not-so-good pictures: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Interestingly enough, I don’t know how much this cost, because my credit-card company’s being weird and because Lenovo neglected to tell me. (I authorized up to $950, what I hope was an exceedingly liberal estimate.) Even better, though: I don’t care. I’m sure I’ll care later, but Charlie’s whole and pure again!
Edit: An exceedingly instead of a exceedingly.
