Another reason I shouldn't work nights...

Post by Stasi »

I figured that working nights probably had an adverse effect on my health, if for no other reason than the fact that it's much more difficult to get quality sleep when I have to sleep during the day. Granted, this is yet another "maybe so" association with cancer, it wouldn't surprise me if it is actually true.

I doubt the whole "circadian rhythm" crap, though like of sleep may factor in. While I know a lot of people who work graveyard have trouble sleeping, I have no doubt that if you got used to graveyard and if you slept on a regular schedule, you could sleep fine, that is if you can factor in for environmental factors (loud neighbors, etc.), and some some kind of social life that doesn't revolve around people working 1st shift.

As an aside know there have also been studies that link a lack of Vitamin D to risks of cancer and a number of other diseases.

Ah, yes. The stress related to greater difficulty socializing.... at least working on my end of the week, which covers Friday and Saturday nights. I worked a 9-5, Mon - Fri type of job some years ago. Awful job and pay, but great schedule. Now I make tons more, and the job is tolerable, but I despise the schedule. Ugh. I'm going to start working some overtime to fund a couple of new endeavors that I think might get me some cash on the side, in addition a foot in the door into two fields of work I'm interested in.
