Here are a few things I used to think about computers:
<ul><li>That Netscape was an ISP. (Note that this is before Netscape actually was an ISP.)</li><li>That the character-encoding menu on Internet Explorer was used to translate pages into different languages.</li><li>That I messed up my sister’s computer by right-clicking on a Web page.</li></ul>

I thought it was possible to hack a pc that was turned off, throught the power cord

You know, that reminds me of the time my friend said he could turn his computer on remotely (as in a state away) from the WebTV-type thing in our hotel room. I didn’t know any better.

Oh, I used to think I would have to buy a French-Canadian keyboard to type the accents for my French class. I’d have, like, five keyboards here if it weren’t for discovering the character map.

windows by default installs and enables much to do that is a security risk.

some drivers are installed but not enabled in windows to enable plug and play support, the problem is, even if you don't have the hardware connected. malicious person/programs can still enable the drivers which can comprimise your pc's security

others can see, hear everything you do on your pc. - the fbi have enabled cell phones to transmit what it 'hears' even with the phone turned off, the users only protection from this is to remove the battery, of course with the battery out you can't recieve calls

with packet sniffers they can also 'sift' through what they want and don't want

Big brother is here and real. take comfort however they can take everything they want, your only protection is they are not able to 'use' it. This is akin of legal authorities haveing every ability to take one of your kidneys and your only legal protection is they are not allowed to use it.

The cell phone issues is legally admissable in a court of law

I used to be very afraid of dos, I once typed b: in the console prompt since I was curious why there was a drive A but not a drive B since it went to C So it said something like "insert disk for drive B" but it forced full screen. I was so terrified and did not know how to come out I just rebooted it. This was an old p3 with win98. Our first computer.

Then this other time I got the safe mode menu, and safe mode was selected, so I figured that's the right option, ended up booting into safe mode, and I was freaked out because everything was "screwed up" (16 colors, etc) this was late at night so I just turned it off and went to bed, when I booted it up the next day it was ok, and I figured it was a dream.
