Wow sounds like a confusion situation. Can't really help though, but I would hold on contacting any german place for information in case what you mention does happen. That could suck.

But I think once you're in the US for 5 years (or is it 3?) you are considered a US citizen. Not sure how it works here in Canada though.. (kinda bad that I would not know lol)

No, I don’t think so. That may be the time you are required to live in the U.S. before you can apply to become a U.S. citizen. I think the only way you can become a citizen automatically is through birth.

Well whatever country you were born in is what nationality you are. So, by that I dont think the Germans would have any authority on making you do community service. So I'd give the embassy a ring.

I would guess you would qualify for German citezenship but I wouldnt be sure. And if you are, you'd probably be entitled to an EU passport which would give you freedom to visit and live in any country in the EU.

Give them a ring. They wouldnt go through the trouble of shipping you back to Germany to make you do community service.

I was looking at my father’s German passport, and I’m pretty sure he’s still a citizen.

I don’t think I need any of the questions answered now.

Hmm… I guess the chances are pretty high that I am a German citizen. It’s quite weird. I suddenly feel like learning German.

I still can’t travel to Cuba though!

I don’t really want to go there, but all the travel restrictions make me curious.

EDIT: I had a lot of questions in the first post. I removed them because I didn’t want someone to go through the trouble of answering them just to find out that I didn’t need them any more!

No, I was just asking questions to see if my father is still a German citizen. I’m sure he is now.

Hey, can I live and work in Switzerland with an EU passport?

Nope, you've a choice of 25 and Switzerland isnt one of them.

No, I don’t really want to live in Switzerland. I was just curious since it is a non-EU country surrounded by the EU. (I think it is surrounded at least!)
