baby chipmunk

Post by Red Squirrel »

Saw one outside our yard, not exactly a baby (they're like 1 inch long, very cute) but looks pretty young. He was just hanging out the front yard. So I went to find some food, salted peanuts were the closest thing I could come by that a chipmunk would like so I went off to try and him to eat from my hand. A little tougher to tame then the phsyco squirrel at the cottage, but I think a few more times and he'll come and eat in my hand. He came super close, and ate the peanuts near my hand then flashed away super fast. unfortunatly he's a road crosser, so don't know how long he'll last. :( But good news is I think there's a family of them since every year we see a different one, and last year I saw a dead one on the road. :(

Next time I'll try to get some pics, he's a cute little fella. And it looks like he'll eat just about anything, he was grabbing random stuff from the garden and eating it. Once tamed they seem to build up a personality, which is really cool. We need to get a bird feeder accessable by ground animals though, our curent is on a nail hanging from the shed, hard to get to. Though a few years back a chipmunk managed to get to it, he just needed my assistence to get down. :D

We used to have a whole family of them living under the house. Then the hawks came. . .And the owls, who soon departed due to a highway. Then they came back after about 4 months.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.

One of our cats left a dead baby rabbit by the door the other day.
