Clearly, you work on computers that belong to morons. That's what's wrong

Do I need to post screenshots of adaware and spybot to back that up?

It doesn't really seem that funny to me. Likely the modem in question is an external cable modem, to which the nic connects to directly. We all deal with computer morons, but you gotta applaud one who's mindful enough to realize his own ignorance, and label things accordingly, with labels that mean something to him, regardless of how technically correct they are. I mean, I don't have the patience to teach everybody everything, so whatever leaves me with 1 less call or question, I'm all for.
Now, if it really was a modem, and he somehow managed to shove an rj45 into a hole for an rj11. Well, then, he deserves to be shot

Usually, when I don't have the patience to help people, instead of incorrectly labelling something, I yell at them about what it really is. I'm just that cranky about computer supportI mean, I don't have the patience to teach everybody everything, so whatever leaves me with 1 less call or question, I'm all for.

Thankfully it's in fact a nic and I'm the one that plugged in the cable and you could almost see the question mark over my head as I read the words "modem" beside the plug in which the Ethernet cable had just been plugged in to.
