Will the destruction of Earth be humans fault?
We've seen it or heard it all. Nuclear wars, models of what would happen if there was a large scale nuclear explosion, etc.. or even long term things like global warming. All sorts of magnetic fields and radiation going around causing cells to reproduce too fast (cancer) or not fast enough. etc etc... all things humans do that could wipe the planet at some point.
But, there's also all the astroides, sun storms and other space stuff that happends that could possibly destroy the planet.
So what do you think will happen first, humans will accidentally destroy the planet, or a natural occurance will? That's of course, if the rapture does not come before, which it probably will, but let's just bretend it won't for sake of discussion.

I think humans will develop intelligent machines which will take over the earth and try to wipe out humanity. They may even send someone into the past to try to eliminate any individual who would lead a resistance against them. You know, I should take this idea and make it into a movie.

Yeah sounds like a cool movie.
But what if someone in the future is already working on a resistance so that they can't be stopped now?

that's the plot to the terminator movies...well i don't remember the first one but it is to the second and third one.Bookworm wrote: I think humans will develop intelligent machines which will take over the earth and try to wipe out humanity. anyway i'm pretty sure it will be the humans, space is so big the chances of an asteroid crashing into earth as opposed to anywhere is is very small, but if we keep having people like pres. bush who don't think conserving natural resources is very important then i'm sure we will destroy ourselves.

Asteroids are a real possibility, but like OLKMED mentioned, there's a lot of other place for an asteroid to hit, mind you there's a lot of asteroids too So I can't really make any comment on the likelihood of one smacking into us. Still, we've seen a number of close calls of varying degree since we've been watching for these things.
Robots attacking humanity? It's possible, but I think all the movies about robots attacking humans will go a long way to prevent that from happening. However I do think there will be times when our reliance on technology will cause incidents of worldwide panic and even massive death toll as a result of some fluke computer glitch. But I don't think it will ever be anything tremendously threatening to our planet or race as a whole.
My personal vote for mostly likely would probably go to raping and pillaging the earth till the whole rock is nothing but barren wasteland or some kind of waterworld type scenario. We may be off raping another planet by then though. It's entirely feasible that one day our technology may get to the point were it is eco-friendly, but I think by then the damage will be irreversible.

I don't think this would cause the destruction of the earth, but I am somewhat concerned about the possibility of some virus like Ebola running rampant. The earth would still be here, but most of us people wouldn't.

do you think we have a cure for all these diseases, i mean where did ebola go? is it contained somewhere and if so how? i'd think that a trace would have to be somewhere and with it being as volitle and contagious as i've heard why didn't it kill everyone?

I don't think that if humanity is destroyed it will have been an effect of nature since humankind is quite capable and likely to destroy itself (or at least render itself primative through mass destruction). However, I do believe that when the earth is destroyed it will have been nature.

It would probably fix it's own problems and get really healthy... but then again, humans do allot to help the planet on a large scale such as stopping forest fires. If a forest fire would not be stopped it would basically burn down the entire country, since all forest is linked at some point or the other, especially if none would get cut down. And natural forest fires do happen. I'm sure there's other examples I just can't think of any.

Forest Fires help the forest grow by destroying old trees and making room for new ones. Trust me, forest fires have happened before we came along to stop themRed Squirrel wrote: It would probably fix it's own problems and get really healthy... but then again, humans do allot to help the planet on a large scale such as stopping forest fires. I can see a possible beginning of the ned soon. With the planet getting hotter due to manmade product, the planet is trying to fix itself. with an increase of CO2 comes increased weather activity leading to more plants to absorb CO2 and transfer in into oxygen. With an increase of certain chemical in the atmosphere, the planet will change teh way it runs. When the weather patterns change and the current gulf stream/other water currents collapse, it is doing that to maintain the planet, if we bypass that process we go against what the planet is trying to do to fix the problem. I can see us developing machines to keep the warm water currents flowing so that the current populations can continue to prosper in their current location. That will be the beginning of the end.
If anyone has read the Dark Tower Series, the last 2 books talk about something similar to this: Magic(nature) vs. Technology.

Actually the theory in that movie makes allot of sense, and it is happening right now. It's just that the movie exagerates it. The whole process may take a few 100 years to process, and I don't think it will get cold to the point where you die from freezing. It may go down like -50's and such but not absolute zero like in the movie. LOL

or
2: Mass Disease

I am really not worried about where this planet is going. It's like Ian Malcolm said in the book Jurrasic Park: If we die, then the Earth will not miss us. Awesome book, BTW.
