From what I understand, the Constitution prohibits the state from ESTABLISHING a religion. That has come to be interpreted as an absolute separation, but the concept of separation of church and state is not specifically in the Constittution. I don't see as how calling it a Christmas tree does anything to establish a state religion.

Ban fruits, it might offend people because of "be fruitful and multiply" is in the bible.

It's food not fruit!

Hmm food is mentioned in the Bible too... just call it injestation material then. :P

BTW I hope you all catch my sarcasm I don't really want to ban fruits.

But if people want to ban stuff because it's "religious related" then there's lot of banning to do! :nana:

I bet this is the reason the US hates Canadian lumber, since most of it is pine trees.

Anti-christmas activists: Ban everything that has to do with Christmas!
Goverment: No, let's tax it instead!

Welcome class. Eveyone take your seats. In our first hour, we will study Hanakkah. In our second hour we will study Kwanza. In our third hour hour, we will sit quietly at our seats because we can't talk about Christmas.

If somehow, something like that happened to me at my school (going a day hearing about other religious holidays not related to christianity), my head would asplode!

That's basically what these anti-christmas activists are hoping will happen.

A "genuine" American to him is probably a fellow Christian theocrat like himself, despite the fact that there's nothing genuinely American about being a theocrat. A "genuine" American is also probably another flag-waving nationalist who doesn't critically think about anything that might go against the conservative establishment.

I don't think it necessarily has to "establish a state religion." You said yourself "That has come to be interpreted as an absolute separation." Which means that our state cannot officially endorse any one religion as preferrable of favorable over another.
Think for a moment if your employer was only supposed to use pens that have no offiliation with any type of company that makes pens. They have a policy that prohibits the your employer from having any connection to any particular pen-making company. (It would be difficult, I know, but use your imagination) In essence they have a policy that requires the separation of "Us" (your empoyer) and "Pen-making companies."

If your employer then supplies you with a pen that is labelled "BIC Pen" it would consequently violate their policy of separation of "Us" and "Pen-making companies."

Similarly, if your City or your State officials have a policy requiring the separation of Church and State, and they then provide you with a tree labelled "Christ's Tree" or "Christmas Tree" it would also violate our country's policy separating Church and State, since Christ is directly related to a particular church and our state officials are providing us with the tree in question.
That's really as basic as I think I can break it down for you. Which part do you not understand?

Red... I very much doubt that there is any such thing as an "Anti-Christmas activist"... well I guess you could call Scrooge that if you wanted but, he turned out ok in the end.

What this whole thing is is people being bastards. Someone got a bug up there :censored: and decided that it offended their feeble mind to have to deal with hearing the word Christmas every time someone said the word Tree this time of year. It's a type of person who starts a fight because they can't be happy with their life.

This shouldn't be an issue damnit. WHO CARES!!? Let each individual call it what they want and stop complaining about it.

On a side note I'm glad the "Hell tree" has caught on I was planning on marketing and selling the things I'm sitting on a gold mine.

Hmm, funny, 'cause I remember the opposite, lets talk about Christmas, and you other "people", just sit in the back and be quite. Or maybe the real issue is that you are depending on government to educate you, because they are the only ones this is an issue with.

There is no good way to incorporate religion into government and make it fair for everyone, on the other hand, there is no need either, churches are free to do as they please. Religion is a private issue that has no place anywhere but an individual's private life. A good person should have no problem applying this theory, it is simple respect.

^_^ Yeah, since when do public schools teach any type of religion? I recall having a Christmas party. I think we even got the occassional Christmas candy from the teacher. But in all my memories of my years in the public school system, I do not once remember hearing about, much less "studying", Hanakkah or Kwanza. Hell, I still don't know what "Kwanza" even is! Shows you how often I "studied" it in school. (NEVER) In fact, I don't think I was ever even exposed to any kind of academic study of any religious material until I went to college and started taking some Theology courses. What schools did you go to Bookworm? And what class was that in that you "studied" Hanakkah and Kwanza? I'd like to know, as I'm sure the American Public would like to know as well, where our hard earned tax dollars are being spent "studying" and teaching our children about religious holidays. Did you also spend an hour studying Ramadan?

I'd appreciate it if you stop putting words in my mouth (ha what should i expect). By genuine i mean the average regular american, working their :censored: of to bay bills. Not some lazy bum sitting on their :censored: collecting welfare and not some rich politcan with nothing better to do then pick on Christmas. On to schools, most put up all three things, they have the jew candles and the kwanzanaman thingy ( ) and a santa claus doll or something.

So you're saying that politicians and homeless people aren't genuine Americans? Is that what you're saying Joe?
